Much has been said about Google becoming too 'powerful' now that people run much of their lives from Google - I say; isn't it the case that the more people come to rely on Google for their decision making, the more opportunities will present themselves for those of us who manipulate the search results?

If you can control the way someone perceives the world, your potential for profit is unlimited.
And, as Black-hatters, that is exactly what we do - we control perceptions, by influencing (and, if we're good, by controlling) what people see when they're searching for the building blocks that they use to build their perceptions of the world...

PS - as long as we don't drink the kool-aid, we should have no objection to G's increasing dominance. Indeed, we should ultimately desire for their total market dominance, in order to give ourselves more reach.

Sorry OP but I don't agree. I think a market that isn't dominated by a single monopoly would present more opportunity.

That being said you're right in that it does bring it's own kind of benefits to marketers, providing a single source to concentrate on.

I agree. I've often seen people on BHW complaining about the fact that Google shut down their latest blackhat efforts, and that Matt Cutts is a *insert random sexual organ here*.

If Google just allowed it's search results to be dominated by spam and rubbish, people would stop using it, they would become untrustworthy and useless. Then no one would benefit.

I think it's a very good thing Google keeps improving, and we keep adapting. Google gets bigger, we make more money. Sure, we have to start again from scratch every now and then, but if done properly, we should be a little bit better off, every time.

Nothing says win-win more than that, in my opinion.

tony_d your confusing between online presence and google. its good for us that people understand the power of online presence = seo,ppc,media buys,lead generation,social,listings etc etc ..

its NOT good that google is the only search engine since there are only 10 results and sometimes less.
