Does SEO matter? Or it's all your luck!

I think, all this SEO stuff is just a myth. It is more your luck :) I have a pretty nice website. I did all on-page SEO as well as off-page. However, still my website is not on 1st rank.

The 1st rank website is (chatdude.pk) for the keyword "pakistani chat rooms". This is not competitive word. I did all the competitor analysis and this website scores less than mine. Their HTML code is also crappy and contents are copy past. The backlinks don't have keyword in them.

How Google can give them 1st rank? Where is SEO now!!!!

Just because you do not do proper SEO and do not rank doesn't mean .... SEO is all about luck !!! The harder you work , the luckier you get !!!!

Keep CALM and do SEO
 
FYI! I have some other websites. They rank #1 for many good medium competitive keywords. However, I do not know why this website with crappy on-page (one liner text) and off-page SEO is still at #1.

Maybe experts over here could point out any strong point of this website. ?
 
You've been a member since 2008, why are you acting like such a newbie?

Maybe if you didn't quit SEO for 5 years then dive back into it, your website would be ranking.

I am just wondering, what is the strong point of this website? Why this website is #1 with crappy stuff :/

No matter what you think, the search engines take the keywords off your page and not what you think they are, then a link is a link. But... and a big one, a keyword that is EMD makes a foot print, but a link is a link.

So what is going on is that the page is using links that do not contain the keywords, but use links.

You want to rank for "Cats," try keywords: "Mice," "Elephants," "Dogs," "Catnip," "Nepeta," etc. because a link is a link and they will not leave a footprint that is easily discovered (except by URL).

It's because you did nothing in this 5 years with SEO ! You didn't learned anything ! And all now what you are doing is pretending !! ( :S )

Could you put some light on the issue as well? What do you think? What is so special in their website to keep the #1 rank? It does not have many backlinks and unique contents. Better websites than this one are ranking below them.
 
I think OP has a point. SEO is not all luck, but with all the randomizing patents and complex ranking algorithm, there's is bit of 'luck' element involved. But as with any profession, more you know, luckier you get.

A quick look at Majestic SEO shows the site has almost 23,000 backlinks. lol
 
SEO nowadays is all about authority. I want you to forget everything you have ever heard about SEO, and just create a website like you had no clue what Google was. Now go through and do some mild changes. The next step is getting visitors, you can hand out fliers at your University or around your city. After Google bots pick up that your website is getting natural traffic, it will try and help. The big G will give you authority, then people must respect your authority.

Just my blurb, I am not saying this is correct -- it is just how I do it! :P
