Guy Gets Two Years in Prison For Fake Profiles

I didn't bother reading the article but according to the first sentence it appears that the guy created a fake website. That's fraud and not blackhat.

Yes, exactly. I can go over to any dating site and create a fake profile to get people to signup, no issue. However, when you create a 'phishing' like website, and take peoples money... that is not legal.

What I am trying to say that 90% of the dating CPA offers I have checked are doing the very same thing: bombarding new members with 'hey sexy' to get them hooked. I no longer promote them but everyone who does so should think about what they are taking part in.

Lastly, creating fake websites is not equal to committing fraud.

That is not what phishing stands for...

dude whole intentions was to scam these people, should have got more years! poor swingers they just tyring swing.

So he has a fake site for swingers, and the people they talk to are fake. Why the fuck did he not just let them talk to each other, that way he would have done nothing wrong.

He didn't get jailed for creating fake profiles, he got jailed for obtaining 200k by means of fraud and deception...

Lastly, creating fake websites is not equal to committing fraud.

Fraud is deliberate deception with the intent of financial gain. If you create a fake website and financially benefit from it, then you have committed fraud. An example would be creating a fake website and charging people access to it.

Yes the whole site is fake, he is arranging hookups which never happen as he is the person they are meant to meet. So why did he not just let the swingers talk and hook up with each other.

Anyway I am off making a swingers site.

you need help hit me up, we can do this and stay legit.

So why did he not just let the swingers talk and hook up with each other.

Because he's a lazy greedy scammer. Developing and scaling an actual platform with a real user base would require talent and investment.

Plus swingers don't want to pay $40 for the opportunity to swing with other ugly old couples. They want to pay $40 to swing with hot young (non-existent) couples. The fake profiles are what made it so profitable.

But yeah, there is legit money to be in this space.

Quite remarkable to see fraud and deception discussed on a blackhat site.

We shouldn't throw stones in our house made of glass.

It has been rumored by a couple ex-employees that even Flippa started this way as well (the comments are still in Google SE). Many of the early bidders and even some of the listings were in fact Flippa shills until the site took off. Of course none of them admit this once the toddler can walk on his own. :)

A lot of self-righteous idiocy here, presuming to tell other people what is and is not black hat. The fact is the guy made a lot of really good money, and if he had played the game a little more intelligently he might still be making money from it. I intend to adopt the exact same business model in the near future. I'm surprised by the number of people that come to a black hat website so that they can moralize and judge other people's actions.
