I will be using the same technique on my next niche. I used it on my last one and it boosted conversion rates from 10% to 25%. Only use this if you are doing Whitehat niches (read below), where you actually provide what the user is looking. So don't do any fake game hacks with a working payment button.
It's simple. You have two button giving the visitor two options. They can either pay for it or get it for free by completing a survey.
1. This makes them think if they should pay for it or complete a survey (so they wont be thinking about if they should complete a survey or leave the site)
2. Who doesn't want something that has some value of cash to it for free? They will more likely do a survey for it. It's psychology. The payment option makes the user think that this is of value.
3. In my opinion it seems more trustworthy. A scammer will scam for money but in this case they will think this isn't a scam as there is a option to get it free.
Remember, DON'T do this with Blackhat niches (read blow). It seems pretty simple, but the small things can make a big difference.
If You're Doing Blackhat Niches
If you decide to Blackhat niches, don't make a working payment button of course. Redirect them to a page with some kind of "error", so it looks legit and the user will think that there is a problem with the payment option and will continue to complete a survey.
