PHPBUILT's Idiot-Proof Guide to Authority Site Building

Is anyone intrested in pledging some cash to a VA to summarise this thread? There is so much great info its scary though no index and I forget what's on what page..

I will start with $15? Are you ok with this PHPBuilt?

I think, everybody can read the thread, so there is no need for a VA. The issue with that will be, that the VA has not the knowledge about that specific topic, so there will be some issues in that summarise.

And there is just 1 info in that thread. Do not stuff keywords and keep the keyword density low(2% for single keyword, 1,5% for 2 word keywords, 1% for 3 word keywords). And do some good internal linkbuilding(20% exact keyword, 40% related keyword, 40% general words). Thats all you should know.

You can send me now the 15$ now :-)

Dude just read the thread. If you're that lazy just quit internet marketing

I just wanted to add another post saying thanks for this thread!

I'm gonna buy a domain to give this method a try today.

+1 Rep given

I just want to ask, if I have volunteer writers would it still be smart to remove the author pages, since now they actually have use?

Hi phpbuilt,
i've read trough the whole thread and took notes, deoptimized my articles on my websites and themes, changed to all in one seo + yarrp but i still have some problems considering my structure. Is it okay if i added you on skype to have an in-depth check?
Much appreciated and + rep given!!

Been really busy, full answers to every question in the thread I'll be answering in the next few hours.

Also, I've gotten probably over 100 new contacts on skype + IM's from people asking for help, I've got a full time job and simply no time left -- if you can generalize your questions and ask them here I'm sure I can get to them all.

Hi phpbuild,
you really helped me. Thanks a lot!
I have a follow up question: My site seams to be over optimized. My Keyword is Red Balloon. My article is about the best Red Balloons out there and i mention the phrase Red Balloon 3times in it. However the word Red and the word Balloon is in there about 30 times each.. Does that hit me?
Best Regards! Really appreciate your help :)

I completely understand,

Okay i'll try and go with your example.
My first site is myfancybluewidget.com, I've set custom excerpts to show on the homepage. All of my articles use longtails that are low competition. Like top fancy blue widgets, working blue widgets, blue round widget that shines, etc.
How can i properly structurize those so they don't cannibalize each other?
I have a home, about and privacy policy page. Should i make more pages and put the matching articles on that page or use them with categories and noindex/follow them? At this moment i just post them in wordpress as a post and don't touch them. But after reading i'm sure it's hurting me.

My 2nd site has a non matching domain, but i would like to have blue widgets, red cars, yellow balloons as main subjects. Should i just ad those to the navigation bar? Also let's say i got a post on red cars review and one on red cars test, and i would like to put them together to avoid caniballisation but keep the individual articles. Should i do it with a page or category?

Could you explain me how i can properly structurize my posts ?

Thank you for your time, and helping us out!!

Hi, i'll chime in and answer this one :),
If you checked the whole thread, phpbuild explains that an individual keyword may NOT be higher than 2%. That's 2 times per 100 words in your article. So if you have your word 30 times in your article it wil hurt it badly! Use the searchstatus plugin for FireFox, you just need to highlight your keyword and let it do the calculations for you.
Good luck ;)

Tanks benjamins!
i tried the pluing, but it just seeks for the exact match of the keyword. Keyword: Red Balloon, Title of the Page: Best Red and Green Balloon -> 0 Matches.
Is the important thing the exact or the broad match?

My new site that was built using this strategy had a bunch of pages ranking top 100 without any backlinks, over the last few days they have just been dropping out of the SERP (no longer in top 100). Haven't changed anything on these pages in a while so not sure what's happening. Very confused. I never realized ranking without backlinks was this difficult lol. I thought all I had to do was have good content with the right keyword densities and that's it. I guess I'll going back to backlinking again, it's so much easier.

You just have to highlight your keyword and do a right click and then choose 'Show Keyword Density'. The percentages that are used by phpbuild concern the body (Correct me if i'm wrong). Just re-read the first post of OP and you'll be set.
Cheers

KW densities concern the entire page and not just the content block. This is why widgets in sidebars can cause so much kw corruption alongside the anchors used in internal and external linking. php covers this in the early stages of this thread.

Phpbuilt thanks you for all your help you are like the Mother Teresa of SEO :) I have got a lot of my keywords ranking without links using your method. But I would really really love to hear how you build Web 2.0's. I know I spoke to you before and you said you only need 1 Web 2.0 per site. I would love to know what you do. Even a basic outline to get me started. As at the moment I am building out Web 2.0's of 5-15 pages and putting one link back to my site.(linking to .gov .edu sites as suggested by you as well) But it is really time consuming and I don't know how long it is going to take to do this to rank a lot pages on a 100 page site.

Hi takachance, I know that, i was referring to okidoky's post where his article had 30 times the same keyword in it. So the main problem here was on the content :). Considering that Okidoky read the other causes of overoptimization in OP, I thought that there was no need in repeating this.

If i read right, the values on the body are these:
1 word should be less than 2%
2 words should be less than 1.5%
3 words and above should be less than 1%

I actually asked a question slightly pertaining to this earlier today and right after my post I checked the board and here was your write up. VERY NICE I might add and I got about half way into it and there was so much valuable info in my opinion I had to stop and start implementing it. Thank you very much and I am going to give it a shot. Sounds like it makes sense....

I tried this on a little side project and saw the same. Although to be clear - phpbuilt is not suggesting we rank without backlinks. He is suggesting ranking as high as possible with content alone, then adding back links to boost the site further. Going to try and add another KW in and see if i over did the under optimization.

I would like to hear some opinions on how broad is too broad of a niche for an authority site? How big is too big and why?

Just For example if i had found some great keywords related to something like kitchens, but i had also found some great keywords related to bathrooms - would you advise making one great big website in the "home" niche or two room specific sites? if you could share a little of the reasoning behind your answer it would be appreciated!

I am blown away! I started in 2010 and was taught to keep keyword density at no more than 1 percent. I was taught silo structure and including keywords in URLs, titles and descriptions. Somewhere before first Panda hit I rebelled (very timely) and edited everything to whatever felt natural.

I am doing fine but definitely could do better. I have hundreds of pages. All natural. No link building whatsoever. Not really silo structure - whatever feels natural and logic to me...

I could never think I am still overoptimized but you have clearly showed that to me. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT!!! I feel SO fortunate to know this. Especially keyword weighing stuff was totally new to me. I had to read that several times to understand what you mean and put all new information together.

What always bugged me that at some point other sites who don't even talk about the keyword per se started to rank no 2, 3, 4 while I am 5, 6, or 7. I have more content. It's to the point and is better presented. Sometimes I would be crowding something like 7, 8, 9 or 7 and 8 at the same time. Now I see why!

I figured I had both onpage and offpage issues (internal linking with anchor text), so I modified just one page to see if it will rise. Now I don't know what to do with myself for 48 hours :)

I have one question which probably almost anyone can answer here but I don't find solution on my own. How do you actually get WordPress custom excerpts? I looked for plugins but all I see allows you to control word count but it doesn't insert meta description instead of post itself.

Thanks!
