Hey guys, So I've been offering SEO locally and at SEO forums for a while now and that's nice and all but I want to know how to land those HUGE clients. The big fish that are willing to pay $xx,xxx per month. I mean sure right now I might be making that of like 5-10 clients, but it would be nice to have a few big fish. So please if you can share some strategies that you use to go after these guys... Thanks!-Fresh

Get lucky.

The only people who will pay that much for SEO services are extremely established business owners. I don't think you will be able to land one of those clients without having an extremely good reputation for SEO. Just my opinion.

How good of a reputation do you need? I have one guy working for me that has ranked 1000's of sites in the TOP, and most of them reached #1. He has also ranked for some of the hardest keywords like: "home insurance", "play games online", "buy e cigarette", "online insurance policy", "new york insurance company", etc.
I think that we've made a decent name for ourselves but what is the next step?

There is a thread in the forum which can help you. Basically a local SEO story :)

Haha the problem isn't how to run my business it's how to approach clients that have substantial budget for marketing and that know the importance of a strong online presence.

Combine what most people have said here + threads on BHW + CONFIDENCE

That's what's it's all about. Walk the walk, talk the talk, show them impressive shit

If you can show your past and previous work where you are ranking number 1 that should explain it. People do not trust easily. They want to see your results and your potential. I am also trying to penetrate the local market and here in my case, people don't know much thing about online visibility and so so ! Sad story :(

Okay I am confident as a mofo. I've got that big fish swagger right now. I am simply lost on how exactly to look out for these guys. They don't tend to pick from the same pool as the smaller guys. I guess what I mean is say I'm going to call up Pizza Hut and talk to them about SEO, who would I call? The marketing department or another department. So far I've worked with small business owners and IMers so I haven't sealed with anyone but owners themselves.

Pizza Hut is just an example btw, I'm eating pizza right now...

if you already doing this SEO for clinet and you believe you can handle big clients then put together a proposal and mail it to them with your contact info, send it certified mail.

Set up a meeting and land the clients, only difference between you and the others is the others go out and GET those clinets they dont wait till they come to them.

1)I'd write a very nice sales copy(if you cant do it hire a badass copywriter). IMO this is one of the most important steps.

if:
no response -> call them -> ask for a meeting

they respond -> send them sales copy + ask for meeting

prepare for the meeting:
1) analyse their target market
2) analyse competition + website
3) Make a nice ROI chart (SEO Expenses vs. expected increase in Revenue vs. increase in Leads vs. whateveryoucanthinkof)

I want to thank you both for answering my question. I especially like it when condadon said:

I think #3 will be a really good selling point. So thank you very much.

How many SEO and marketing proposals do you think these guys are seeing on a weekly basis? Doing the same thing as everyone else will get you nowhere.

The best way to get people to listen to you is not to do a sales pitch, it's for you to win their trust then tell them what you do. How can you win their trust when you're going right in for the kill? People hate being sold to don't forget.

So here's how to land the really big fish easily.

First take a minute to think about who is your IDEAL client. Who EXACTLY do you want to work with? Let's say it's CEO's. Now go over to linkedin and search for people in that role and in the locality you want to target. This should give you a list of dozens of protential clients. But do NOT contact them just yet.

Make note of the their details and then go over to twitter and follow every one you want to target. Now sit back and wait for them to start talking. When they do, contact them and be super interested in what they're saying. Get chatting to them and be passionate about the things THEY'RE interested in.

After you've done this and your on friendly terms with them you can start to work the conversation towards what you both do for a living and BOOM you've got them!

I hope you enjoy getting rich from this strategy buddy. PM me to let me know how you get on :)

Talk about how I landed my 2 BIG clients last year - THIS right here is pure business. Networking. :)

trust. you can create the best snake-oil-sounding copy in the world and be lucky to get an interview, but the big boys need to trust you before a proposal is approved.
How do you achieve trust? your personal and client network. This is how it's done in the major city I live in.

does this work if the potential client is some professional in his thirties and forties while i am in my twenties in college and my twitter page is full of things they don't relate to?
