A Game Developer's journey to $5,000 a day!

This is a nice change from the usual themes of IM. I'll be following your journey because I'm interested in how you market your games and how you make money off of them. I picked up some mobile app game dev a while ago and worked on a game myself but lost motivation. Hopefully your journey inspires me to pick it up again.

Good luck!

I like it, I have a game on android which I pushed out as a test. I'm close to 3000 downloads at the moment but no money. I would push for more but 3D game development is much more tempting for me right now! Good luck with this, will be interested how you go about marketing

Today I shown the first game to a few people and they really liked it, it wasn't even easy to get back my tablet from them. So I guess it will be fine as the first game, especially because it was done in short time. Still making levels, integrating social media and tweaking the game. Can't wait to officially start this journey and push out the first game!

Nice man, post a video of the game or something.

Soon! Want to add a bit more features first. :) Also I need to root my tablet to be able to record a good quality video, just a few more days. :)

Umm, guys, how do I edit the thread once I need to update the progress, etc? I saw someone done that in his thread after a long time, but I just noticed im not able to edit the post anymore.

Make a new post. After some time you can't edit a post anymore.

if you want to edit the first post then maybe you can do that by contacting a mod.

The most important question is how do you plan to promote the games? The days of submitting games and getting thousands of downloads is more or less over. ASO still exists but it doesn't bring numbers like it did in the past. Good luck, Ill be following.

I'm excited to see your game releases v3ctor! As for the edit post issue, Journey threads are like that (from personal experience).
If you can PM me some samples of your skills, I'd love to see what you're capable of. Been searching for a skilled developer for months.

I like this guy's attitude. He's also hyperactive.

This is one of the more interesting journeys I have come across. How do you plan on going about the graphical side of the games?

Depends on what do you mean exactly.

Thanks. The first one is going to be a simple arcade game (done this project in just a few days). The second one will be probably an FPS game I was working on a few months ago but stopped it due some personal problems in my life. IMO that one is going to be a kick-a** game, but not im the one who needs to decide that. :) I'm also working on a TPS hack n slash game, which looks pretty, uhmm "next gen" compared to most of the games for handheld devices but thats not included in this journey as its a private project im working on with someone else.

If I decide to create something else instead of finishing my FPS game, ive got two more game ideas, and man... I just cant wait to finish them all! (would be working now as well if my girlfriend wouldnt be here lol) But as I said before, ill probably finish the FPS one because im done with the half of it already.

I have my plans for that, but I wouldn't share it if you don't mind. All I can say it will probably involve different types of paid marketing (its only like 10% of the "plan") and I'm also open to JV's, while its not necessary, but helps a LOT.

Ps.: im not sure if my post is clear and understandable, but please excuse me, got fever and havent sleep for looong hours ;D

wow really excited to see this journey :D i would like to know how to make games also, will start to try unity 3d

btw how will you advertise your game?

edit : saw your post above

hey victor,

Few questions, are you coding the games your self or outsourcing them?

Also which platforms are you targeting first, just ios and android or?

last one, what frameworks are you using to develop these games? Something which is productive and quick to roll out nice and addictive games?

If you can share these insights it will be great!

The trolls on HN say indie games are dying - but I think thats bull (like "SEO is dead" ffs).

Awesome. Good luck. Subbed

Hey Bill,

(It's V3ctor, my name is not Victor :P)

I'm developing in Unity game engine. I both code and design my games. Targeting android first, because I only got PRO licence for PC and Android platforms.

I think you don't need a pro account to deploy games on mobile anymore.
