Journey From The Bottom to Somewhere...

Hello BHW,

I've been a member for almost two months now and have been reading the forums multiple times a day since joining. I have read and decided one of the best ways to learn is to take action and I am creating this thread for motivation mostly for myself, but encourage anyone and everyone to follow along.

A little background on myself, I'm 23 and currently pursuing a Bachelors degree in Marketing (kind of ironic I know). I am also almost $50,000 in debt with student loans and have a year and half until I'm finished with my degree. I know being 23, you're parents shouldn't be depending on you for financial support, but everyone has a story and my mother has recently been notified of an inevitable foreclosure on her home. So whatever extra money I have has been going her way. I do currently have a job on campus that pays me minimum wage but also allows me to read the forums and do homework which I am very grateful for.

However this journey isn't about my life or my situation, its about trying to make money and just being able to survive comfortably. As I said before, I'm posting this mostly for myself, to keep myself motivated and to stay on track. I have read many journeys and have seen so many positive people and people willing to help that I thought I would give this a try.

MY GOAL-
Make $10/day (30 x $10=$300=Almost monthly rent)

My Strategy-
1.) Purchase domain name -
2.) Purchase hosting -
3.) Narrow down niche ideas and focus on one or two main ones -
4.) Find keywords + long tail keywords to target -
5.) Create a review website/blog using wordpress -
6.) Write 1500 words or AT LEAST 3 reviews EVERY day! -
7.) Get approved for amazon affiliate program -
8.) Get approved for adsense -
9.) Create a YouTube/Twitter/FB account and update regularly with content similar to and from review site -
10.) NEVER STOP WORKING AND SCALE UP!! -

My Ideas for traffic = BE EVERYWHERE! Post to popular forums in related niche category, yahoo answers, maybe purchase some traffic from fiverr (using adwords coupons? good/bad idea?), and I will continue to search here for other ways to get legit traffic once website is up and I have some reviews and quality content posted.

My questions-
1.)Is a niche dealing with a main product that costs $XXX-$X,XXX a bad idea for a review site with amazon and adsense?
2.)How long should I wait before I apply for amazon and adsense? Assuming they can be used together...Would you choose some other type of advertising when reviewing an expensive product?

I will be updating this on a regular basis and letting people know what works for me so others can also possibly benefit.

1 & 2) So you're going to be selling $X,XXX products, and also put Adsense on your site? This is just my opinion, but that sounds like a pretty silly idea. If you're trying to get people to buy high-money products, don't waste their visit on a 2-cent click when he/she could be a potential client who earns you a $XXX commission.

Yeah thank you for your insight and opinion. I agree, I guess my thinking was just along the lines of "how do I make money if no one ever purchases anything?"

I'm going to go into it with a different mindset now though and just put everything I can into getting some quality reviews and hope for the best.

Update: Its been almost 24 hours since my "journey started" and I have spent a majority of my time narrowing down a niche and keywords. I have used the google keyword planner and really haven't seen good results with the two niches I planned on using. With that being said, I know there is no "perfect niche or keyword" so I'm going to roll with one and hope for the best.

Accomplished:
1.) Niche selected
2.) Keywords identified

Goal for tomorrow:
1.) Purchase domain name and hosting.
2.) Get 3 basic pages up and 1500+ words using Wordpress.

Ideas and suggestions are always welcome!

I suggest getting a wp popup plugin with an opt in. For all you know they might not be ready to buy when they visit your site but if you email market similar items to them one day they will buy. When they buy once they will most likely buy again. Just a thought, I use a popup plugin on all my sites so it is the first thing they see when they visit.

Very nice plan. Now, stick to it. And as said before, if you plan on affiliation, don't waste your time with adsense. You should also wait until you have severals visitors a day before starting to put aff links.

Also, remember to capture their email address. Put an opt-in box somewhere pretty noticeable, without making it look too spammy or out of place. If you really are going to be writing 1500 words every day, you'll have plenty of content to send out to them in some kind of newsletter. Consider taking some of the content that you would be putting on your blog, and using it only for the newsletter to give it some exclusivity. Consider the products you're selling, and how often you should actually be trying to promote a product in your emails. For example, if you're selling refrigerators, don't send them shit about fridges every single day

Yeah, having interest in the niche is incredibly important. I know this from personal experience 4 years ago, when I tried to make a niche work that I had no interest in, and I got burnt out pretty damn quickly.

And by the way, 1500 words a day is quite a lot, so don't worry about that.

Installed WP and updated main pages.

Next:
Continue doing reviews everyday.
Install basic WP plug-ins.

Future: Apply for amazon affiliate program after more content.

If anyone has any advice on must have wordpress plug-ins, I will definitely give them a try!
