Ranking Local Websites

I am planning to create several local, information-based, websites and would need some guidance in regards to ranking.

I have already done my research, and the competition is rather low.

What I would like to know is whether I would need a local domain to rank easier and faster in local searches.

Any other website is also welcomed since I am still rather new to ranking and monetizing websites.

And while I'm at it, I would also need some suggestions for an affordable webhost. I considered GoDaddy, but have seen a lot of bad reviews regarding the uptime and support.

If I'm ranking a UK site, I always buy a .co.uk domain... I'm not certain whether it's strictly required, but I can tell you it certainly works for me each time.

The issue is that domains for the target country tend to be expensive. Everywhere I've looked they were in the 70s or 100s. I just figured I would double check its importance before getting one.

My link building plan is already thought out, and as for the monetization I will offer ad spaces to local businesses. I already have a list of interested parties.

I have never had any problem with HostGator. If I have queries, their chat support team is always on the go to help.
I just don't know with others who host their sites to HostGator but that's my experience with them so far.

Okay, have at least 9 categories if you are planning to submit it to Google News after 30 to 45 days of daily posting of news. Good luck if you're going to write on your own!

Interestingly, I've never bothered with same-country hosting, and it hasn't seemed to have made a difference. That said, I might well give it a try, and see if I rank faster... it's not a question for me of 'if' it would help me take out #1, because I always do, it's just a question of if it would make it faster... if so, it may be worthwhile.

hi, i'm trying to rank a local site as well. how do you build links to your site? and do you know of any cases where the language of the isn't english? would links from english sites help the rankings?

I would personally avoid hosting with the domain registrar of the domains you own, so if you own the domains through godaddy then don't host with them.

That's putting all of your eggs in one basket and could be a recipe for disaster at some point.
