Doubt between building a Authority Website or multiple niche websites

Hey guys! Happy New Year!

I got a doubt and I would like some input from experienced people on this subject.

Lets say I have 5 Keywords with a 2K Local Search each.

The keywords follow this pattern: (example keywords only)

-Tallest dog ever
-Tallest building ever
-Tallest person ever
-Tallest something ever
-Tallest something2 ever

All these keywords have EMD available.

Checking the top results for these keywords, all number 1 spots are from a website that only covers "The Tallest Stuff Ever". Lets call it tallestever[dot]com.
This website has poor off page SEO but has a lot of content. Lets say 90 articles.

Question is: Would it be better to build an authority website and cover all those keywords and try to outrank the "tallestever[dot]com" website, or just build 5 different websites for the 5 keywords, all EMD, and outrank that way ?

I asked this question before on BHW and was told that he best strategy was to do both.

Build the Authority site and the niche sites and dominate for those keywords.

When your purpose is to target search engines, you will end up in loss. Caught up in google penalties and stuff like this. Focus on the value that your website will give to users. Take an example of twitter, pinterest, youtube, these sites dont have any keyword in their URL. It is not necessary to have keyword in URL, it all depends on they way you market. I can bet on this. these tactics are adopted by people who can not market or can not offer any thing valuable and they take support of these minute factors.

Google still gives value to exact match domains.

But an exact match domain website is useless without good quality content.

One authority website that has useful content for users. You'll see it growing from itself.

I personally would go for the authority site. Get a ton of quality content on there and make separate pages for each keyword you are targeting. Then also target longer tail keywords for each of your main keywords. An authority site has a much better chance of standing the test of time. Once you have built authority it will be easier to rank new keywords with new articles. I would also purchase the EMD's, stick some relevant content on them and link to your authority site. (Don't leave a trace though). Who knows, some of your EMD's may also rank well too.

Do the articles rank even If I only backlink the main domain? (Due to domain trust, etc..)

My post sums up what latest GOogle algo and news talk about, it is giving a right direction. I dont know if any body can understand or not, but the one who can think can get it.

You dont need to create 5 different site where it is quite possible to achieve with one site by authority site and including all keywords.

Do both, link to your main domain with broad terms and then link to each page with more targeted phrases, but remember no to over do it. Throw in a lot of generic and raw links!!

How about a single authority site, but individual 2.0s based on the specific keywords. Should look natural and give you the best of both words.

links to the topic specific pages with a decent site structure should confer authority on the domain, but you can mix in domain links to get a raw link on forum profiles, etc. again, should make it look more natural.
