Buying domain - you get what you pay for ?

Hey there BHW members,
I wanted to buy a nice .net domain (1 year) on GoDaddy.com
After I chose and selected my domain, the final bill was $10.17 - which is not that expensive, but after reading all these threads on BHW forum with those eye-catching titles like: "$0.99 .com domain 1 year" and "Free .net .com domains for 6 months", I wondered why should I spend like $10 for a domain that could be bought for like 10 times smaller price.
So, should I buy this $10 domain on GoDaddy (which I find expensive now), or search this and other forums for those 1 dollar domains.
If you know some better and cheaper websites like GoDaddy, it would be great if you could suggest one

Find one of the coupon code threads around here and you'll probably get your domain cheaper. I use an extension in Chrome called Honey and I've since not paid full price on anything from GoDaddy in a year or so. I bought a .com the other night for $4 with privacy. Saved like $12.

Some one posted about the offer codes with the help of which you can have domains cheaper to 0.99$ for a year. Just search the give away section

I like what DKovik mentioned. Personally I use namecheap - they include privacy, usually have monthly coupons and allow free email at checkout. They are usually trusted with BHW members for domain registrar other than godaddy.

Yeah, Namecheap is also cool and because it's trusted with BHW, I may use it instead of GoDaddy.

I think you can use the code 99LUV or someting like that to buy a domain for 99 cents.

just google 0.99 godaddy domain coupon or namecheap coupon and u can find many

Yeah try the honey extension, but for .net domain its harder to find such low prizes as for coms.

Namesilo is cheaper than namecheap, and they don't charge you a fee when it comes time to renew your privacy protection.

I also wouldn't suggest GoDaddy anymore.
Years ago I got an SSL certificate for like $14,99 / first year.
Unfortunately they turned on recurring subscriptions and a year later they charged me around $50 without prior notice (regarding the subscription).

Lesson learned, since then I'm using namecheap and they haven't disappointed me yet.
However, as crazedspyker pointed out, there are cheaper registrars.
