I'm making this thread while waiting for my shitlist thread to get approved. Basically I got scammed in a pretty stupid way and bought physical items through gift payments. The reason why I did this is because PayPal kept placing a hold on every other form of payment I made. I did put in the payment note that I was buying the physical items and wanted them shipped to a specific address. I was wondering if anyone ever had gotten their money back from a gift payment and how they went about it. Any help is appreciated at this point.

Anyone ever been in a similar situation?

I don't think you can get it back,
A gift is not considered a payment
In fact paypal will probably consider your the one who was trying to cheat them out of their commission.

You should have been suspicious when you saw the only payment option was as a gift

Sorry for your badluck

Though if he is a member here, the shit list might do some good

This......
lesson learnt and move on :-(

Just to clarify: the only reason I paid via gift is because other methods caused PayPal to place a hold on the funds. Gift was pretty much my only option. What I'm asking is if anyone has ever attempted to get their money back after paying via gift and whether they were successful.

Your best bet is to give them a call and explain your situation.

You can call them and say that you were in a hurry and didn't realize you placed it as a gift

Not possible, I bought a spoiler once from some car forums. The admin specified that you should NOT send any payments via gift because you are not protected on this. Call PayPal and say it was a mistake.

Try and call Paypal and hopefully they will sympathise with your situation, but really the gift system has earned them less money for your transaction so in their eyes they may have thought you were just trying to reduce their fees and as a result have terminated your buyer protection. Good luck though!

I think the only way you can get the money back is if the transaction was unauthorized

The chances of you getting your money back is very very slim. You can try to call them and explain your situation but your chances are still slim. They know of people sending payments as gifts to bypass fees so they have little sympathy when dealing with situations like these.

With that said, if you made the payment using a different IP, operating system, browser, or computer there is a chance that you can call Paypal and tell them the payment was unauthorized. They will most likely look into it and, if the circumstances are right (different OS, browser, ip, etc), they may reverse the payment.

The advice above is coming from years of experience with Paypal. When I first came into the IM world I was foolish and sent a $300 payment as a gift. Despite calling them multiple times and demanding the supervisor they still did not reverse the payment.

Good luck! IF you have anymore questions feel free to PM me.
