Using a proxy on a cell phone/smartphone

I need to use a few proxies on a smartphone and I have barely any experience with proxies etc.

Does plugging a proxy into the internet browser (firefox) work the same on a phone as it does on a pc? Will I have any problems here or do I just do it the exact same way as I've been doing on my laptop?

Thanks brother. So there is a difference then... I need to make sure I do this right. What about iPhones etc.? Does the protocol for using proxies change between different types of devices?

Can't speak to an Android as I only have an iphone, but on the iphone you'd want to go to Settings > Wifi > click on the blue arrow next to the name of your network that you're currently connected to. That should bring up the details for the default wifi connection you're using. Scroll down to the bottom and you'll see HTTP Proxy settings. Click Manual and it bring up boxes to enter your server and port, along with a tab for authentication should you need it. Just enter your proxy information in there and then exit out. You can then go to safari and navigate to whatever "what is my ip" site that you want and double check.

One thing to keep in mind is that some apps will not use these settings, but rather create a socket to communicate on bypassing the proxy. It's actually a little more than that, but I wasn't going to try and explain it all now, especially since I'm far from an expert on the matter. Depending on what you're trying to do, that may or may not be an issue, as not all apps operate like this, but it's definitely worth noting. If you're just trying to surf or use Safari or a browser on the phone it shouldn't be much of an issue though.
