That firefox plugin has some issue, yesterday I checked the articles I have writen already, and I was recheking an article just now, he gave me for 9 keywords in 944 words Body, 4.8%, instead of 0.95%.

The keyword, is formed of 5 words, and I 9 of it, in the body, If I try the less long tail, -1 word-2 words-3 words-5 words. I get less % for the 2 words one, and more %, more I want to get the stats for the long tail keyword.

He gave me the right readings if I test for 1 word keyword.

That's because the calculation of more than 1 word is different. When you have let's say 2 words then the total number of 2 words combination is less than the total amount of 1 word. So when you have 5 words phrase it checks it against the the total of 5 words combinations and therefore your ratio is higher in your case as you have 9 occurrences out of less combinations.

The tool is calculating keyword density the right way. A 5 word keyword has to be multiplied by 5 compared to a 1 word keyword. For example if you had a 1000 word article, and your keyword was 500 words long; one occurrence of that keyword would be 50% kw density, not 1% (ridiculous example I know, but it's the same concept :p).

If a page doesn't move 4 days after changing the keyword density from 2.8% down to 0.9%, does that mean the page was not over-optimized or that google is just delayed in applying the changes?

ok thanks, so, If I want to rank for a 3 words keywords, I need to use less often in the content that a 2 words keywords?

Little update,

I did this on my site, a lot of my keywords went from no where to in the top 100. I have not implemented everything yet, so some keywords not ranking. But I will give you an example, this is the best one. Keyword with Low competition on Keyword planner exact match search 1900 searches, no backlinks. Ranking at 33 ;)

There's 2 types of optimization, onpage and offpage. Sometimes if you fix the onpage, it doesn't move because the offpage (incoming exact anchors) put the page into overoptimization, even if on-page keyword density is fine, so first question is ... did you backlink, internally or externally, to that page with lots of exact anchor text?

Second question is whether the Google cache page has changed.

The exact anchor to the page is about 10%, and the cached version of the page hasn't been updated in google.

Should I reduce the keyword density from 0.9% down even more to 0.5% or just wait until the page cache is updated?

Damn, I've been doing SEO for a while but mainly niche sites and whatnot. Building an authority site now, and could not for the life of me figure out why my homepage is ranking for some inner page money terms when I haven't been using those money terms as anchors. Now I see I'm over optimized. Good stuff man, thanks.

PHP is right. I've been submitting and fetching my pages left and right in Google, and they're taking longer to re-cache them now. Could just be the index hasn't updated with your new deoptimized pages yet.

Wrote an article with the keyword CityName + SEO Specialist. Page was indexed and came in at #8 for that term, no quotation marks. It did index with a previous title though. Zero backlinks or internal linking. That might not happen as it was a "proof of concept" for me. Not so lucky with another niche I'm working, but I'm tweaking. Thanks, php.

Wait for cache to refresh. If cache is refreshed and no changed within 24 hours after you see the cache changed ... time to add another paragraph and get the keyword on page 1 more time.

.5% is only necessary with heavy linking on that exact keyword ... if you're only doing 10% anchors you could go up to around 1.3% just fine.

awesome share.
thanks for the time and dedication you have put into this thread.

What anchor text do you usually use when internally linking to other articles?

The power you get from exact anchors goes a little something like this ...

Exact from private blog network = powerful
Exact from internal links = medium
Exact from web2.0s = low

When you're going to link to your page, its like you're on a golf green and deciding which club to use. So it boils down to the power you think you need to use to get that page to rank.

Only linking once? Use an exact anchor. Going to link multiple times? Ok ... you have to balance those links out.

Do you plan on running a backlinking campaign to that page eventually? If so, from where? Lets say you need a whole bunch of links to rank that page ... then I'd go like this ...

High PR/PA/DA blog network 100% incoming exact anchors.
Interlinking from other pages on the blog 0% exact anchors.
Linking from your web2.0s 0% exact anchors.

This way, your most powerful incoming links are also 100% exacts. This can cause overoptimization, however, which you balance with your internal links at 0% and your free blog links at 0%.

If its a medium keyword, perhaps you don't need a blog network to rank it. Maybe you're ok with 100% internal anchors exact and 20% of incoming web2.0s exact (80% diluted).

Its a balancing act. The point is, you want the best links going to that page to be exacts, and everything after that is to dilute the exacts.

Also worth considering, is that no one will link to your site with an anchor like 'Best weight loss tips for women'. People will post a naked link, or something in the lines of 'click here', 'this guy', 'link', 'read more', 'found here' ... If the goal is to make it look natural.

Guys please could you answer this stupid question of mine?

if I write an article of 1000 words, and I want my 2 words keyword have a density of 1%, I should use the keyword 10 times in the content, or 5 times?

If I write an article of 1000 words and I want my 3 word keyword have a density of 1%, I should use the keyword about 3 times? or 10?

Download Quirk Searchstatus, firefox plugin. It will tell you what your density is at.

ok will use that plugin to double check after posting, but I already write the article with more or less the right keywords density.

Some of the articles have been indexed but ranking nowhere, yet.

5 times and 3 times.

Think about it this way, when you have a keyword made up of of two words, there will be 500 two-word combinations in your article -- you will have to fill 5 two-word combinations with your 2 kws to accomplish 1%.

Do sidebar links count as exact match internal linking? For example, if my keyword was red widgets, and I had a "popular pages" widget showing "red widgets" and linking to my page sitewide.
