That's probably the best SEO article I have ever read. Thank you for sharing.

A few questions:

You said you don't use PMDs. Do you try to avoid using any part of the keyword in the domain?

Do meta descriptions and url count for keyword density?

Do you write unique meta descriptions for each post? Do you include keywords?

I might use a partial match domain. I'd rather use uggtown.com rather than bestuggboots.net. There is an issue with naming your blog after that EMD, it puts your main keyword in every title by default. Then, when you want to put that keyword in the title of a post, it gets stuck in the page title twice.

Do meta descriptions and url count for keyword density?

It's assumed you're going to use the keyword in the meta description once. Use Quirk Searchstatus firefox plugin to tell you the pages keyword density. The "Body" is where the 1% or 1.5% comes in.

Do you write unique meta descriptions for each post? Do you include keywords?

I write an excerpt for each post. That excerpt is used on categories and homepage. Wordpress uses excerpt as meta description on your article page -- so yes, I write a unique for each page.

Hi!

Have a html site, 5 pages. It used to rank well with little effort, but all rankings dropped on 4th of october with the algorithm change. This domain has 46/43 PA/DA and with the latest PR update, received a PR of 2.

The site seems to be stuck, i would actually be happy to see any movement, even negative:P

The higher the PR, the more often Google checks and reevaluates your homepage. Its rare that a change doesn't reflect in Google even within 36 hours of a change, but it probably means Google hasn't both rescanned and reevaluated your page yet.

This might mean that your blog isn't pinging properly when you add a new post or change an existing post (old version of wordpress), or that you abused pinging in the past and Google doesn't trust the ping. If neither of those are the problem, go to pingomatic.com and ping your changed page.

Take a phrase that you recently changed and Google it with exact quotes. If Google doesn't find it, it means Google hasn't scanned your page yet. If it finds it, it could mean Google has cached the page but hasn't applied an algorithmic reevaluation of the contents yet.

I can tell you've put some serious effort into this article, thanks for taking the time man. Great info!

Is it common for rankings to drop and then rise back up after reducing the keyword density?

I had a page that was ranked on page 4 with only internal backlinks, I reduced the keyword density from 2.8% to 1.4% and the page dropped down to page 5. It's been about 48 hours since I made the change.

A reduction in keyword density is good -- there's many aspects of onpage SEO though. If you want, PM your page and I'll look at it. The difference between 4 and 5 isn't very big, it could mean that Google hasn't even reevaluated your page yet, but since your change 5 other sites have been reevaluated to a position better than your blog.

Happened to me as well (position dropping). I guess it is normal when you change things up, I`ll give it a week and see what happens. By the way, thanks for an awesome article Phpbuilt, looking forward to the one about backlinks/Web 2.0`s

Regards

Phpbuilt, this is about pinging . Is it ok to uncomment rpc.pingomatic.com since google XML sitemap plugin notifies google bing and yahoo.

Thanks for your reply. A few more questions if you have time:

Do you use stopwords in your title?

For an authority site, you previously mentioned using a static homepage and do-following categories. Why would you do-follow the categories? Wouldn't no-following them have the same effect and eliminate duplicate content?

Do you use stopwords in your title?

Not intentionally. I try to stick the big keyword near the front of the sentence, stick a longtail in there if possible and also generate some curiosity to visit the page.

In the guide I explain how I go about naming my titles.

But I think what you're asking, do I avoid putting modifiers in my title if I don't want to rank for the modifier? Yes, I avoid that, although my "stop" words are often a comma, a " | " or some other method of segregating my preferred keyword out.

I just wanted to stop and say thank you phpbuilt. Threads like this are why I am here learning. More threads like this and less "Dr Phil" style threads is a great way to go.

Thanks you very much really, if there was a feature to tips you with bitcoin, i'll just pay you a beer.
Your thread is bookmark and i'm making a resume of it. Very good advice to make a perfect network. Can't wait for fingerprint and others thread from you.
I will start soon my first network blog after 2 years in the e-commerce industry.. A LOT OF WORK and WRITING in perspective , but i'm ready for it, and your thread just give me more confidence. Thanks !!

Anyway since you are a very good guy and answer question i've got few for you :

Can i make a bunch of private blog network, and web 2.0, in a high risk industry. When my money site is takedown by whatever (DMCA, DDOS etc...), can i just change the backlink on my blogs ? Or this is weird and maybe detected by google (admitting i change all the link the same day, or 5 by 5 or whatever), do you have any kind of advice on this ? What should i do in this case ? :)

Can we agree for local search google.de; google.es etc... it's a WAY lot better to have the article related in same langage ? Do you have special advice to improve power of network blog with localsearch or english articles are fine, and local langage article add no value at all? (which is hard to believe).

I have several website to promote which their are in the same industry (example : IT), but who not sell the same type of product (one website target kw of GPU, one website selling modem etc...)

My idea right now is to make a bunch of web 2.0 high quality (5articles/10articles ++ ranked well - before any backlink to money site), who are talking about the whole industry (IT). Like this i have the possibility to make a specialised article later to obtain a related contain for my backlink who target one of my specialised website.
+
Some lower web2.0 quality who is talking about directly the specialised thing like one web 2.0 who talk only about MODEM, like good writing but a lot quicker with only 2-3 articles ranked well - before start to backlink.
+
Private network blog, with a new domain + expired domain, who are all highest quality possible, specialised or not.

This is the best way to do it ? What do you think ? Some advice ? Maybe can you give me a ideal ration ? I was thinking something like 33/33/33.

I will add a tiers 2 to push all of them, but i don't know yet how i will proceed exactly for this part, maybe pay some service here.

Thanks again.

I am adding all my posts as blog posts, as this has worked wonders for me earlier (the whole social part, sharing and comments).

I currently have two authority blogs, which are built pretty much like you describe here with focus on on-site SEO.

Right now, all my posts are kw targeted, but what is your view on making more "social" posts to engage readers and simply for social branding?

For instance, if my site is about Travel to Israel, and I have a site on "Package trips to the dead sea", and I make a "my top ten recommendations for Israel", "My trip to Israel", where I list the dead sea among other things.

These post wont rank for a specific keyword, maybe long-tails, but it will interlink with my dead sea post and it will be the type of post where people comment and share. I have previously had a personal travel blog, and these posts are exactly the ones people will share on travel forums, as it an honest review of someone who has been there and something unique ...

What about just adding more posts that aren't keyword targeted, but sort of LSI or related to the niche but not targeted any of my KW, to build a readership?

Hope you get my problem. ;)

Edit: Regarding Themes. The Gensis Theme is the one I've ended up using. I previously used Thesis, but I like the child themes better on Genesis. It does a lot of the stuff you recommend in the first post (noindex ceratin pages etc.). I think it can be found in the download section, along with all the child themes.

That's a good question. I think in a high risk industry like payday loans, Google does a certain amount of weeding of the top of the SERPs. Web2.0s are a great way to filter incoming links ... if you make a high quality web2.0 on 100 different platforms, the spammy types of links would go to those. This would give you a decent backlink portfolio if the only thing you're using is push-button backlinks.

The better solution would be to make your own high PR/DA/PA blog network.

I'm currently writing up very detailed guides on how to do both of those, they will be available sometime soon.

My only experience in ranking for countries is using country-related TLDs with expired domains. It is quite effective. However, these foreign countries happen to speak English, so I don't know enough about foreign language SEO to have much advice there.

Private network blog, with a new domain + expired domain, who are all highest quality possible, specialised or not.

This is the best way to do it ?

Web2.0s and expired domains on your own personal private blog network is a winning combination. How to do that, stay tuned, I will write all about this soon.

Any "crappy" links you want to buy would be filtered by your web2.0s.

What I like to do is this. Its my opinion that the best types of backlinks your inner pages can get are from other inner pages. What I will often do is take 3 or 4 underperforming pages and write one article that addresses each of those pages -- giving them an internal backlink.

That would fit in with what you're saying about social pages that would back up the main pages. Inner linking between your articles is extremely powerful.

My opinion on Genesis and Thesis is that people say they're great because people get a commission to say they are great. They just add 1 more layer of complexity and another learning curve. I like the http://www.theme-junkie.com/themes/resizable/. I end up ripping out all the widgets and filling the sidebar with ads. It is a responsive theme, which I think gets you a bonus for mobile traffic.

Thanks again!

The interlinking is interesting. It is something I've never utilized previously -- but now I see in my Analytics account how the flow is through my site. On the articles where I have contextual interlinks, I can clearly see how the visitors are moving through the related articles.

Another tips, which I use on my blogs is a page in the menu bare saying "New? Start here" and have the introductory and popular posts listed there, with a few snippets of unique text for each.

Thanks, you should to consider to accept bitcoin donation or something like this, because you deserve to be reward for this kind of tutorial/thread.

I guess I'll stick something in my sig for that soon, downloading the software for it. Not a bad idea hehe, I'll treat my wife out to dinner with it and she'll be more forgiving of the time I spend on BHW lol.

That firefox plugin has some issue, yesterday I checked the articles I have writen already, and I was recheking an article just now, he gave me for 9 keywords in 944 words Body, 4.8%, instead of 0.95%.

The keyword, is formed of 5 words, and I 9 of it, in the body, If I try the less long tail, -1 word-2 words-3 words-5 words. I get less % for the 2 words one, and more %, more I want to get the stats for the long tail keyword.

He gave me the right readings if I test for 1 word keyword.
