Hi,

Real life is brutal and mean as fuck! And the online world is no different when it comes to SEO. Using BlackHat techniques it is a little bit easier to cover your tracks but still it requires work. But what about white-hat SEO?

From the looks of Google's algorithm they are favoring well established websites, sites that have links from reputable websites and if you notice something in common... these websites have people with money, power, influence or good social connections in the real world as much as the online world.

So, am I stupid to think that in the online world the weak has a good chance to rank high in the search engines on its own or the SEO/online world basically requires me to kiss someone's asshole?

What the hell is white-hat anyway?

I build 100 links manually (takes me an hour), I am the good guy. But I use Xrumer to build 100 links (takes 5 minutes, given you did your harvesting already), suddenly I am the bad guy for being smart? WTF!

you are the bad guy in both cases :)

links shouldn't be bought/created, but you should receive them from people linking to your site because your site is awesome

You're apparently not very smart guy if you don't see that these two are exactly the same, thus throwing the definition of "white hat" out of the window.

Don't be bother about white or black. The only thing that matter is whether results can be obtained. This is a win at all cost mentality.

Results can be obtained, and you're correct that budget corresponds with your results.
You may not have the funds to go straight for the big dogs now, but you can find a way to raise your funds = take them on.
Or skip all of it like me. If you're a big wig at heart, go where the big wigs gather.

You don't get it... white hat is all about growing your links organically! For example: Social signals leading to traffic directed at your site, thus creating new links in communities etc...

what you're doing is the same, just differently done!

There is no such thing as whitehat seo, buying links is blackhat seo.

There is no white hat in top 10 for hard competition. Get that word out of your brain...

I started my online business with 0$ 2 years ago.
I am not rich by now, but I can live off the money I earn online.

It is true that you won't be able to rank for highly competetive niches, but you can target smaller ones and work your way up!
Crying over things you can't change won't bring you anywhere!

I never understand what is white hat SEO. Google clearly states any attempt to build links is against their TOS unless it is done by some one else who thinks your content is worth linking to...

What they are doing is to take the small guy out of this business. The big dogs always make money and they will in the near future because they have big pockets. It is the small and poor guy who get hit..

Same like the real world.. Internet is a mean and nasty place.

No big companies use true "white hat." They are all paying people to build links and buying links from other sites. It's called marketing. Go start a really good insurance website and see if anyone gives a crap enough to link to you. Good luck.

It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are,Google will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as Google. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done! Now if you know what you're worth then go out and get what you're worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain't you! You're better than that!

You got this from a movie. There is difference between movie and real life. :)

If you play by the rules "they" want you to play by always - the answer is NO! But you have to look for the right opportunity and exploit when it comes, to succeed. That is they only way you will have a chance!

Whether your small or a big player, you will succeed if you step over the borders (black-to-white and white-to-black) every once and a while to make it... :-)

There is no white hat , there is only - getting links without a purpose to get them , and with a purpose to get them . I like to think there are 3 ways - 1. Getting links the slow way (manually) so called 'safe' , boring ,time consuming . 2. Newbs blackhat (doing blackhat without knowing how to do it , or thinking that you know what you are doing without actually knowing) .3. Real blackhat (almost without tracks , fastest , but requires certain knowledge that only few % has).

This is just simply wrong, as are most of the posts in this thread.

The idea that putting a link to your website from your Facebook or linkedin page is black hat is absurd.

You are encouraged (and even expected) to build links to promote your business. Search engines cannot exist without links. You are not expected to (and even discouraged from) building links to manipulate the rankings of your website.

Knowing how to walk this line is what a real SEOist does. And guess what? They constantly move the line.

SEO is a hell of a lot more than just backlinks, but you have been able to rank almost anything with backlinks for so long, that is all anyone does anymore and they call it SEO.

Adding to that is the fact that, even now, spamming links works. They are simply not safe is all that is wrong with them. You cannot take a chance of crashing your money site with backlinks, you should use buffer sites, but people do it all the time.

And if your site is for a local business, it s really quite easy to rank with few backlinks.

It can easily take 2 years to get a white hat site fully up the rankings. But when you do,its a powerhouse.
