R.I.P. Ronnie Biggs

So thus we should accept that it is "Okay" to rob since it's not as bad as rape or murder? No. It is a crime, and that is why there is a consequence for it. Please stop trying to kindergarten logic me.

Nice post edit 2 minutes after I replied to you. Tax is not robbery. You living in the government's country means you comply with their laws and thus you have agreed to pay tax. That is not robbery. I think you need to sort your logic out, it's heavily flawed and it might lead you into a life of crime.

I edited out the part where I called you a buffoon. I didn't want another infraction.

Ronnie Biggs wasn't as successful as the media portrayed him and was a relativity minor player in the Great Train Robbery.

He was famous because of his escape and his publicity stunts whilst he evaded capture for almost 4 decades.

To be on the run for that long is an accomplishment of sorts and he has a place in British History.

All these old timer's received bigger sentences because of political pressure not because they were a threat to society.

The establishment didn't like the fact that they were made to look stupid.

At the time it was the biggest robbery ever, so naturally the public were interested.

The only negative in the whole case was that the Train Driver was beaten and injured. He suffered from health problems continuously afterwards.

It is definitely newsworthy and I have more respect for these Old Time Gangsters than the clowns that call themselves Gangsters (gangsta's) today.

A crime is a crime; whether it be murder, rape, or robbery.
He was successful criminal, but in no way should he be respected for what he had done.
I have come to a realisation that you are more of a criminal than the average person. The average person would not rob their government, and I'm sure you would.

This thread is glorying Biggs. In the OP it clearly states that his death was "Tragic", and that he was a "character to the UK". You are defending the OP, and thus you are defending the message he is trying to portray.

I do not agree with you that "crime is a crime". Here in Australia, driving without your license card (as in you have your license but just left it at home) is a crime, so according to you this is on the same level as murder and rape. Also, whats a crime in one country may not be in another so how do you judge if you are in the wrong? e.g. marajuana in Amsterdam compared to to Australia. In your eyes, I would be a horrible person in Australia, but a normal citizen in Amsterdam.

And Yes, his death was "tragic" as every death is. If he was a murderer/rapist and terrorized people then maybe it wouldn't be so tragic. To me, he was much like Ned Kelly and whilst he shouldn't be glorified, at the same time he shouldn't be attacked.

Yes you accept theft from the so called royal family, the same people who are bred from murderers, pillagers and rapists, there is only one person who needs to sort their logic out, and that is the one who can justify theft from one set of people, but not from another.

Oh and we do not live in the governments country, we pay them to run ours, no matter how shit job they do of it, but funny enough, it is not their country. The UK belongs to the people of the UK.

Where did I say it was OK to rob? I never said that. You stated a "crime is a crime". It's clearly not in the eyes of the law, hence the sliding scale of sentences according to a given crime.

You are looking up to him as if he did nothing wrong, stating that he was "successful" in his field, stating that his death was a tragedy, stating that he was a "character of the UK". All this imply's that you think nothing wrong of what he had done, and hence implying that it is "okay" to rob.

O lawd... Why are you trying to make me appear as if I'm saying rape, murder, and robbery are on the same level? They're not on the same level, and I never said they were. They're all crimes, and they all have consequences. Therefore "a crime is a crime" in the sense that crimes are illegal and immoral and should not be accepted, and the criminal should not be looked up to even if they robbed the government.

At first i was like "Who?" then I was like "so?"

Im Brittish by the way, at the end of the day he was scum that stole... the government may not be squeaky clean, but 2 wrongs dont make a right...

I do have some admiration for a man that robbed the biggest robbers of all yes. Doesn't mean I condone rape or murder which you implied by saying a crime is a crime.

When did he say that it was ok to rob? Saying that someone was succesful doesn't mean that you condone their actions. For example, people say that hitler was one of the greatest public speakers but it doesn't mean that the genocide he committed was good.

Biggs was good at what he did, although it wasn't legal and shouldn't be condoned he was still successful and thats what I think the OP is getting at.

I've explained the "a crime is a crime" to you already.

Look through what I've posted in my last post. He implies that it is okay to rob. Admiring someone's work means you accept it. Hence meaning "Okay". Mind my vague explanation, but the message should be clear.

How ironic that the BBC have the 2 part special on TV tonight about the Great Train Robbery.

LOL blackhatters that have a problem with a criminal that was smarter then the system, how hypocrite can you be?

I don't look up to the guy but i do have respect for the crime, so you holy hypocrites, suck on it ;)

What you are saying about every crime being immoral is wrong - like I said, just because I left my license at home does that make me "immoral" or what if I commit a crime in one country that is legal in another? Who is immoral then? A crime is only a crime because someone said it is.

And No he didn't imply that it is ok to Rob, he implied that he admired how he did it. People do this all the time, like I said before, People admired Hitlers public speak ability - however this doesn't mean that they condone what he did. Have a look at Ned kelly, he killed 3 police officers and has a film about him with Heath ledger and is an Australian Icon even if he was a criminal.

But yes, he did rob and it was wrong to do so but he was bloody succesful at that and eluding the authorities.

It must be great to be such a righteous and highly moral guy like you, when exactly is the pope going to declare you holy?

Let me sum this up for you as I've realised you cannot properly comprehend what's going on.

- It is not okay to rob or commit a crime.

What you are saying about every crime being immoral is wrong - like I said, just because I left my license at home does that make me "immoral" or what if I commit a crime in one country that is legal in another? Who is immoral then? A crime is only a crime because someone said it is.

He admired him, and hence respected him, and therefore accepted what he did and that is all I need to say on my part to prove that the OP says that it is "Okay" to rob. I don't want to get into irrelevant arguments, my point has been proven.

It must be great to be such a righteous and highly moral guy like you, when exactly is the pope going to declare you holy?

What a disgusting remark. That is very offensive to Christians my friend; I suggest you make an apology. I am not Christian though, so I can't be declared "holy", even though I'm such a good person.

No it hasnt! Just because you admire someone for some aspect of their life does not mean you condone what they did or means that the crimes they committed are ok! Like I have said twice already people admired hitler for his leadership skills but that doesn't mean that i think it was "okay" to kill six million jews.

People admired Hitler's leadership; leadership is not directly related to mass extermination or a crime. Robbery on the other hand is directly related to a crime. Please just stop trying to fight what has been proven, you won't get anywhere.

Reading through your posts there seems to be little understanding of the real world.

Where is the morality in Children living on the streets and having to steal food to survive?
Should they be punished they same way?

Where is the morality in Businesses plundering the pension accounts of their workers whilst paying management huge bonuses?
Would this be OK with you because it can be done legally?

You've pretty much summed up the truth.

He never admired the robbery he admired the way they successfully pulled off the crime and didn't get caught. Successful planning and execution is "not directly related to mass extermination or a crime" either so as you stated "please stop trying to fight what has been proven, you won't get anywhere"

He never actually stated that he admired "robbing" either just that he had admiration for the "man that robbed the biggest robbers of all"
