R.I.P. Ronnie Biggs

Real character? He was a robber. What kind of monsters do you people look up to?

An inspiration to criminals everywhere. Just goes to show, if you do the crime you can do the time living it up in Rio.

Yes real character. What do you mean "you people"?

Agreed with IMSEO. Why it's a featured news article on many sites I'll never know.

Because he was a very prominent criminal who escaped from prison and eluded capture for decades. It is certainly newsworthy.

..who stole the equivalent of about 70 million dollars from "the man".

I know who and what he is, I just don't see why we should bring attention to him. It should be minor news if that. He was a robber at the end of the day, he doesn't deserve media attention.

"You people" who look up to those who are only inspirational to the low like them. I look up to successful people, because that is my goal. Your goal is to be a criminal I'm guessing?

I can think of many murderers and rapists who raped and killed 20+ people and got away with it but admitted to it decades later. Do they deserve a mention for their staggering crimes? Wake up.

Yes, their crimes should certainly be widely publicized, and if they admit to them after no matter how long they should be prosecuted for them. The real question is, why weren't they prosecuted after confessing.

What are you talking about mate. No one was talking about the publicity of their crimes (a "mention" refers to a news story that is supposed to be "tragic") , no one was talking about their prosecution, no one even mentioned prosecution. ITT you are acting as if you look up to these criminals, as if they're deserving of honour, attention, and respect. This is what I'm saying is wrong. A criminal should not be put forward as a "character" for a country, rather should be looked down upon. No wonder this world is so corrupt. Criminals are now role models.

Stealing money from the government is nothing like rape and he was successful in his field.

BTW, no, I am not any more of a criminal than the average person. Much less of a criminal than say the British government who Ronnie Biggs stole from.

Nothing I said implies that I look up to criminals. All I'm saying is that when a prominent criminal dies, it is right that it is reported. And that news article isn't glorifying Biggs or his crimes, it is merely reporting that he is dead.

I think he woke up angry.

A crime is a crime; whether it be murder, rape, or robbery.
He was successful criminal, but in no way should he be respected for what he had done.
I have come to a realisation that you are more of a criminal than the average person. The average person would not rob their government, and I'm sure you would.

This thread is glorying Biggs. In the OP it clearly states that his death was "Tragic", and that he was a "character to the UK". You are defending the OP, and thus you are defending the message he is trying to portray.

Would you rather be robbed, or raped and murdered? If we follow your logic to it's conclusion, stealing a bar of chocolate is no different than child molestation.

If you pay taxes, your government robs you daily as do the banks.

So thus we should accept that it is "Okay" to rob since it's not as bad as rape or murder? No. It is a crime, and that is why there is a consequence for it. Please stop trying to kindergarten logic me.

Nice post edit 2 minutes after I replied to you. Tax is not robbery. You living in the government's country means you comply with their laws and thus you have agreed to pay tax. That is not robbery. I think you need to sort your logic out, it's heavily flawed and it might lead you into a life of crime.

Where did I say it was OK to rob? I never said that. You stated a "crime is a crime". It's clearly not in the eyes of the law, hence the sliding scale of sentences according to a given crime.

Who did he steal from? The thieves who thieve of the people of the UK?
