Pages Disappear From Google

I have a wordpress site and I'm mostly trying to rank the category pages.

Each category page, have a 100% original introductory text + a related youtube video on it. They also have some internal links pointing to them, from some articles using anchor text variations.

I'm buiding most backlinks to homepage, but also to each of that category pages ( and then even a few to individual post to make it more natural)

All Tier 1 links are 100% manual. High PR social bookmarks, related 2.0 with original content, etc, etc.

I add (at least) one post everyday, from a random category. After I publish it, I go to google webmaster tools and use "fetch as google", both for the new post url and the category page (since it has a new related/linked article)

After like 10 seconds, the category page appers on the serp. Some on page 16, 8, etc. But others even on page 5 or 4!

But after a couple of hours they simply disappear!

Is this normal? Wasn't it " more normal" to have, lets say, the page "always" on page 20, then having it on page 3 or 4 for a couple of hours and then disappearing?

Why do you guys think this is happening?

I really need o bump this one...I'm afraid I'm doing something wrong, so I'd like to know before I keep working on that site.

Any ideas about what might be causing that? Is it a normal thing? It's the 1st time that happens to one of my sites, so I really can't tell if that's normal or not.

I'd say it's probably doing that because G tailors searches according to a user's behavior, searches etc. Since you have recently been logged into your G account to do whatever you are explaining, G associates you with that site/page and favors it when you search for related terms.

In my early days I thought my first few sites were ranking way better than they actually were because on MY computer they were showing up on the first and second pages, but on anybody else computer they were nowhere to be found.

Is it still indexed though?

Maybe, just MAYBE, what you were seeing is 'personalized results'

I use a vpn and chrome incognito mode, no cookies, not being logged to any account, etc.

And yes, almost all pages are indexed (except for new posts, but they always get indexed too)

Chrome is spying on you 24x7 even if you have incognito mode and whatever turned on. Real pros don't ever use Chrome.

Yeah, and the problem is that if you use Mac, but don't like Chrome, and don't like Safari or Firefox, you're limited to Opera And Opera mostly sucks.

Ok, thank you for all the replies.

I've tried on different computers, different browsers, different proxies, vpn, asked some friends, and even more before I open this thread.

This is not a chrome, my system, cookies, issue.

It is "really happening".

That's why I came here asking for possible causes.

So, does anyone have some other ideas?

Edit ( I guess "real pros" can use chrome. A real pro should know how to use chrome without any problem. Right?)

To the OP: Category pages are difficult to rank, because usually it's a list of items that essentially because duplicate content with other ecommerce sites.

Try to make your category pages A) engage users and help direct them to the product they searched for and B) put content on them.

Plus, the site has nothing to do with ecommerce. And I know category pages are difficult to rank. The question is, why would they pop on page 3, 4 etc for a couple of hours after I add some post that belongs to that category, and then disappear untill I add a new post.

Plus, the site has nothing to do with ecommerce. And I know category pages are difficult to rank. The question is, why would they pop on page 3, 4 etc for a couple of hours after I add some post that belongs to that category, and then disappear untill I add a new post.

Hard to say without seeing the site. If you're popping up and there is some user experience where users are going back into search results and finding something else, then the algorithm is probably not too happy with the pages in the results.

It may be the famous G Dance...last month same happened to me....my site was showing in page 5, suddenly it disappeared, not even in page 30. I was scared...after 3 days it's back but in page 6.
Just wait sometime and see what happens...check in webmaster tools- if there is any crawl error.
