One Domain: Two Hosting Accounts: Two Wordpress Installations

So I g00gled around for a while, and I couldn't find the answer to my question. As most topics referred to just installing wordpress on the main domain, then on a /sub domain but on the SAME HOST.

So this is what I look to accomplish. I want to have my existing site @ www.mywebsite.com hosted on one hosting account. and have www.mywebsite.com/secondhosting on another hosting account. So when I make a post on the second hosting server, I want the url to look like www.mywebsite.com/secondhosting/12/2013/can-i-do-this/

Because I plan on adding a ton of content to the 2nd hosting account.

Is that possible?

I'm using hostgator, but I've been on hold for over an hour, and I'm sure someone here has done this, or knows the answer as to how I should attack this. Thanks in advance.

It is possible, I am not sure how to do it though I believe you have to manipulate the dns settings for your domain. I would contact customer service for this though.

You may only be able to do it on sub-domains though such as (xxxx.yoursite.com) not (yoursite.com/xxxx)

Ok. So where does the SECOND hosting account come into the equation at? What you explained, is a basic Multisite type configuration. Multisites use the same hosting. I'm looking for a second hosting option.

You can do this. I have done it on godaddy. You do it like this, within a sub folder

Site 1 Domain.com/blog1/Subfolder NAME/ Wordpress
Site 2 Domain.com/blog1/Subfolder Name2/Wordpress

Then you install wordpress in the Subfolder Name
Then install wordpress2 in Subfolder NAME2


You can do this all day for as many databases you have with your hosting.

I don't think it is possible and I don't see why you would need to do that? If you don't mind me asking what is the reason? As there maybe an easier alternative to your problem.

I know it would seem like a pain in the ass to do, but sure, I don't mind getting personal. The site I currently have is on shared hosting. I'm not running out of 'resources' yet, but the sub-domain extension within my niche will put the main hosting over the resources. I have a friend who has a spare hosting account that she doesn't use, but pays every year on it; so instead of spending money to upgrade, I just want to use hers, as she said it's ok.

Oxon I just got off the phone with hostgator and they gave me a solution. Advanced DNS settings, change CNAME blah blah but i don't think it will work. And that thing in your avatar looks like it's packing one mean sausage.

You can host the subdomain on your current hosting and you can move your main domain to the new server. This would be the better option I think.

I think what you would have to do is move your domain to the new hosting and then edit the DNS zone for the subdomain to reside on your current server. You shouldn't have much downtime doing it that way. Maybe someone else with a bit more experience could tell you the best way but that's what I would do.

You need to edit the DNS zone of your domain. If you know the IP address of your shared hosting you can put it and make a subdomain on DNS zone.

Im not sure on subfolder.

Ok I think I'll go with the secondhosting.mywebsite.com option even though there really is a reason i need it to look like it still resides 'within' the site. oh well.
