So I have been using spyfu for a while to check keyword competition, but I recently found TrafficTravis and its much easier than spyfu and reads easier lol.

Anyway I compared both tools and for one keyword, I saw that traffic travis is saying that keyword has low competition while spyfu has it in the high medium competition.

So my question is who should i believe ??

I looked at the top 10 in google but i honestly cannot tell if its easy or medium competition .
If anyone has a better tool paid or free please help me out.

Try out Market Samurai ... it works for me best

From your experience does it accurately tell you the competition of a keyword ?

Unfortunately each of those tools uses its own data source, and their own way (formula) to calculate competition.
Simpler best way to check competition is going to Google, and see for yourself how many million pages are competing for your keyword phrase, and your "keyword phrase".

For me, those keyword tools are good mainly to supply ideas as to what to sell or what content to optimize on the page, but here at black hat world, we use black hat techniques, so don't look as much to the competition, we simply try every method, technique, strategy, tool that will get us traffic without placing so much attention to analysis.

Agreed. The bottom line for keyword competition is to get a hard baseline number from Google to serve as a starting point metric, not to wade into extended analysis. How many competitors have very basic on-page SEO going on (keyword in title, and in url), and how many backlinks do the top competitors have, is all you actually need. If you look for a script, macro, plugin or coder that will automatically fetch the phrase/"in quotes" results for a keyword, and number of links, instead of a subjective formula, that should help you out best.

I use Traffic Travis and Rank Rangers both are good.

so basically its up to the old brain to do the work . I wanted the easy way, but i understand that i should find my own method to find it.

thank you guys

You can get Ultimate Niche Finder or Market samurai both are well worth their price.

I recently bought Market Samurai because of their multi features. I honestly say its really a worthy tool. (I'm not saying because of sig.) You can test the 14day free trial to verify my words. :)

I suggest market samurai because I'm using it from last 1 year and getting accurate results so far.

Use Keyword Snooper together with Google Keyword Planner - perfect for finding long-tail keywords, getting keywords, based on competition level and monthly searches, and with the software, you can run and keep hundreds of projects on your hard drive and then use them at any time.

I think you should use google adwords tool to see the competition.

From what i experienced it is the best out there.

But there might be better ones as well. as i have not tested everything.

Thanks

You will never find an accurate tool, it just give you an idea what keyword you should go for.

I use "Wordtracker" along with "Keyword Planner"...using them both together and comparing notes, it seems to do the trick. Wordtracker has both a FREE version and a PAID version. Hope this helps.

The reason why 'Competition' metric varies for both tools is that each of them is using different methods and sources to calculate it.

The best (and easiest) way for you to check keyword competition is just to go to Google (or any other search engine you target) and to see how many page compete for your particular targeted keyword.

But note, that if you want to check how hard it will be to compete for a particular keyword, you will need to analyze a lot of other important SEO metrics: keyword search volume, current traffic, expected traffic, KEI, etc. (check out this article to learn more).

WebMeUp 'Keyword and Rankings' module will let you check all these metrics and see how competitive a particular keyword is. Check out the video to learn more about it.
