Have you ever offset guilt with profit?

I was reviewing a few methods I've put to use in the recent past that resulted in substantial profit. I felt great about each of them while planning but immediately felt guilty after executing them because they were deceptive in nature. Nobody actually got hurt or lost money but I've certainly upset some people and I genuinely feel bad about that. However, once the profit starts building I cease to feel sorry. It's interesting, really. Have any of you ever experienced this?

This is BlackHatWorld that's what we do man. Honestly though, I have done very few things I have felt bad about. If you go into and think it's a good idea when putting things together, you shouldn't change your mind once you succeed and make money. If you think it's a bad idea starting, then don't start it in the first place.

Business is deceptive in nature. Just look at big business and some of the crap they get into over the years. Apple and their cheap labor, Microsoft and their cheap parts etc. If you ever feel guilty for smoke and mirrors you will never get anywhere running a business. If you rip people completely off you won't last long either. (those PPD cracks for example). As long as you sell the sizzle and not the steak, your clients receive something for their money welcome to the world of business.

Ask yourself,
How many times have you watched a trailer only to see it was all hype and the movie sucked?
How many times have you watched a trailer for a video game and get the same result?
How many times did you purchase a product because of a commercial only to get it and it has negative results not mentioned in their ads.

That no-no hair removal thing is a perfect example. They advertise it as the best thing to remove hair since the razor and it does as advertised however the thing stinks like hell and takes so long to use most revert to razors. That review is not from my personal experience it is a neighbors.

Marketing in general is pretty scummy and based on deception.

I donate some to Red Cross or UNICEF whenever big natural disasters happen, just recently to the typhoon in the Philippines. Feels good.

As long as you are not ripping people off or causing anybody any real harm, then don't worry.
If your conscience gets too loud, just donate a percentage of your profits to charity.
The more money you earn, the more people you can help, whether that is by charity or by growing large enough to employ others.

I agree with W130SN. When you look at big business, Intel with their racketeering, BAE with their fraud, Samsung and others using child labour, I really don't think you have much to worry about. As long as you aren't defrauding anyone or anything like that I don't see any issues.

Couldn't have said it better myself, I really dig the Karma attempt you have and I think is a good way to look at things.

To Op you just make this deal with your own conscience and yourself as long as you are not harming anyone - when people say "we are Blackhatworld we do stuff like this" they are right - blackhat is not to do any illegal stuff but trying to use some shortcuts or think different on things in my opinion.
