GO for Reputation Management, do self branding and do some negative SEO as well to those negative reviews about you. Create and share good positive contents about you in social media and other high authority blogs networks. Over a period of time it'll be kicked to later pages. If the defamation in false, either you can deal with this legally or by hiring a Brand/ Reputation management guys.

Yes negative seo works but it depends on the site.

Meaining if this is from ripoffreport you would be doing more harm than good by building links ot the website.

if its a smaller website negative seo will work.

There are some sites (e.g., Wikipedia) that are nearly impossible to take down, but Ripoff Report isn't one of them -- we've done it, multiple times. And Pissed Consumer and Complaints Board and even BBB. Yes, domain authority counts for a lot, but if the page has no direct link support other than internally, it's vulnerable.

The one that's proving to be a bitch is the one that the people who posted threw what looks like 3 consecutive 30-day SENuke drips at. That became an order of magnitude more complex, but it's still doable -- just have to discredit the good links, as well, not just the original URL.

I would suggest spending more effort on actually ranking your site than destroying someone's site.

I got in same position at one time when some forum posts were coming above our client site and maligning their reputation.

I am sorry. When you demand an email address to deliver the "Free" content, and then tosss out a nag screen popup when a person immediately closes the window....

I would have to say that you have nothing unique to present and are farming email addresses.

Why negative SEO when you can just use that amount of time to positive SEO your own site?

Don't ruin others' work.

Just dont waste your time buddy to hurt others... Use that same efforts to give postive seo push to your site.

I would suggest you contact the forum admin and request him to remove the posts, Negative SEOing a forum may backfire and only make the page stronger.
