One question about domains

I was wondering if:

.US domains have the same power as .COM .NET and .ORG domains. I mean, do they rank as good at the top level domains on google.com?

I own and know of many .us domains that have pr1 in google. I have done extensive SEO work and have found that the tld of the domain has a very small impact on the ranking of a domain.

Actually it can.
I?m running a .com domain, but I write in Dutch.
Some webmasters linked to me in the past, and some currently, are linking to a .NL version of my domain. Worst part is, my only reference in DMOZ, it links to a .NL

It sucks.

For a .US I don?t know. But if you?re targeting a country, let?s say Germany (.DE), please register a .DE, as you will have webmasters ?smart? enough not to link at your .COM

It depends, if you have a website that looks for Americans, com,net,org or us tld do not matter.

However, a us domain in a foreign language may confuse search engines and give you the wrong result, that is by considering american a website that isn't, particularly if British, Australian and so on, and therefore pushing it higher on the wrong database, US instead of UK, for instance.

Of course, as stated above, incoming links and link building strategies play a big role.

I believe that .us is same thing as .com because it is addressed to the Americans mainly. But still, does .us rank as good as .com?
