Unexplained Ranking Drops

Are you keeping track of how fast your links are building up? You may be the target of a negative seo campaign.

This is something I have not done. How would you recommend me doing this, keeping a daily tracker of total amount of links, obtaining the data via WMT, or some other method.

Had this been a negative SEO attack, would all my keywords not have lost rankings, as opposed to just a couple of them?

I think this might be due to Google Nov 15th update.

The google semantic algorithm (hummingbird iirc) would do that if semantically it decided that your default long tails were not as good a fit as others.

The reason I think this, is based on the fact some of your related keywords are still strong, while some are dropping out.

I had thought that, i was reading about the high MOZCAST on the 15th of Novomber. Im not sure exactly what this update contains or has changed however? Any info would be great.

Would it take this long for humming bird to affect me? If this is the case, should I crate new content around the LSI terms, and interlink from my main page, along with manually building links for the LSI terms on these new pages?

For instance I can't say for sure that hummingbird has even arrived at my niche yet.

It would be hard to narrow in on lots of long tails from one article the way you could pre humming bird. You might just have to accept that article no longer fits and add more content, focussing on the long tails, if you really want them.

I've added a new article, targetting one of the LSI terms i've lost ranking for. I've linked to it using exact match anchor text from the current page im ranking for, and have began building terms, with more of an anchor text spread to this new article across my existing & new web 2.0 platforms.

I will eventually look to add guest blog backlinks & blog comment posts to it also (along with article submission directory submissions & free press releases when its possible to link to deep pages).
