Let's Liven up the PPV section

I am looking forward to starting PPV, got a couple of hundreds to invest.

I'll take your suggestion and I'll try some email submits/pin submits. Lets see how it goes.

Good luck. Id suggest starting with something that pays more then zip and email submits to start with. You might think that they would be easier to convert but it tends to be with PPV that they arent. Usually hard to make a profit with them because of the amount they get scrubbed. Your usually limited to the amount of conversions and the quality of the leads that your affiliate companies will let you get. Just my suggestion.

Hi there!

Me again, back with more questions...

- What CTR do you consider a good one for a LP?
-Do you make your offer(when a person clicks from your lander) open in a new full size window?
-Have you used geo-targeting, auto playing audio/video? If yes, how were the results?

Have a VPS + loaded LI + paid Bevo + Peerfly - implementing and learning at the same time, constantly bombing LI, Bevo and Peerfly support with questions:D

Anyways, hope you find the time to answer and thanks for giving me the motivation to try this out...

Also guys I see everyone want's to go the way of prosper 202 for tracking. It does work good but when you get into split testing landing pages, split testing popup ads and want to rotate direct linked urls between different affiliate companies you'll see it won't do everything you need.

I'm not sure why you say that. It's wrong. Prosper202 can do all that.

yah if you want to get into modifications. Like I said just my opinion. Its not always easy for people to setup databases and install scripts.

1. For me I only focus on CTR when im testing landing pages. The higher the better obviously. I mean anythig landing page above 10% ill keep tweaking til its the highest I can get. Split test design two LPs and see which has the higher CTR and tweak the better of the two. I mainly focus on my ad spend versus my conversions and profit.

2.I usually direct my LPs right the offer in a new window.

3.Geo targeting with a good headline and a short audio clip does help your click through ratio. Check with your PPV companies terms and conditions about auto playing sound. Lead Impact does allow ot as long as you have a control on it so people can turn it off.

Tip: When choosing the offer you are promoting, usually you will find that a few diff networks will have the same offer running. If you can sign up to the other networks and rotate the same offer between both networks. Youll find one will convert more then the other. Obviously shaving goes on. Check offervault.com to find out what offers are running where. Good luck.

Nice thread Str8Hustler, your answers are very detailed and concise. I like that you don't leave anything out.

I have a few questions of my own, as I am currently running on LI.

1. How do you choose your offers? I read an article from a renown PPV guy that LI has more of a "child" demographic, where it the age is usually around 15-25 yrs old, where as TV has more of a "grownup" demographic of 30+ yr olds. Does this factor into the equation for you?
I tried running Mortgage Refi and Car Insurance on LI, but it didn't go so well. I'm thinking of trying surveys, game downloads, dating, but some of them have low payouts.

2. How do you initially setup campaigns for testing? Example: #1 Traffic >> 2-3 LPs (split test) >> 1 offer OR #2 Traffic >> 2-3 LPs (split test) >> 3+ offers rotated.

I'm leaning more towards setup #1 - 1 campaign contains 2-3 LPs and 1 offer, so that I can actually scrape the offer page and use it for my LP and test out certain variables (headlines, CTA, Images) on my LP.

If I were to take setup #2, where I rotate offers after LPs, I would not be able to scrape the offer LP, since during rotation, the LP would not MATCH the offer and I've always read that your LP should somewhat match the offer page (maintain congruency) for better conversions.

3. You give examples of testing with $5 spend until you reach $25 per campaign, but wouldn't this depend on your offer payout? If my offer payout is $10, then the campaign spend should be over $25 (maybe $40-$50). Also, the "spend per day" I would assume would need to be raised too, according to offer payout.

Thanx grafx, appreciate the comments.

I really don't have a rhyme or reason to choosing an offer. I don't work with adult or weight loss. So I have no experience to offer you there. I like to go with loan offers or anything thats a lead generation type offer with a payout over 5 bucks. apposed to something where someone has to take out a credit card. They're harder to convert. To pick a specific offer that you think will convert well, think about how the users get the spyware installed on their computer. Usually playing games or trying to watch movies / tv shows. At least with Lead Impact anyway. So your demographic analysis maybe correct. I am not with TV yet but I have put a call into them this week to try out there network. If you put yourself into the mindset of what people are doing to get that spyware installed you should be able to pick out better offers like you said such as game downloads, surveys etc..

2. Initially I will only direct link an offer that fits into the PPV ad dimensions. I like to see if they even convert first instead of wasting my time designing 3 landing pages / tracking / time tweaking etc.. If an offer can convert just direct linking it, it has potential. Then I will get into designing landing pages. I will go with 2 landing pages initially. If the payout of the offer is higher over $25 I'll invest more time and design on a third ad. I will rotate 2+ offers with those landing pages. Not two of the same types of offers but the same offer on two different networks. Its nice to test out the networks conversion ratio because we all know networks scrub, just some less then others.
So your second route is what I would take as long as I see conversions direct linking. I also like to use the offers landing page as a primer for my PPV ads. Sometimes just a screenshot of the landing page with a call to action button works wonders.

3. The only reason I say start with $5 per day for a max of $25 per day because the whole PPV game is a lot to grasp when your first starting out. Not everyone has a large budget or some of the skill sets required to start out like landing page design, html coding for pages, tracking setup etc.. So $5 per day is a safe number to start with til newbies gain more experience and don't spend all their money in the beginning of the learning process. But your exactly right, the offer payout will dictate really how much you should spend on average per day. If you don't see a conversion in 5 days, can the offer. If the offer payout is $50.00 , go with $10.00 a day. Think of it this way. Most minimum bids are .02, so .02 at $5 per day is 250 views, 250 a day for 5 days is 1250. Say your CTR is 10%. You've got 125 clicks to your offer. If you cant get one conversion, there's a problem with either the network or the advertiser and can it, move on. If your targets are correct. If they are not your math won't work at all.

But yah the higher the offer payout the more you could raise your budget per day. $50 payout, 5 days of testing at $10 a day is safe. I think of it this way though, What's the difference of $5 a day or $10 a day. If you cant convert one lead at $5 why would you cause you spent $10? Something is off if you can't convert at least one lead at $5 or 250 visitors.

you guys should try cpvlab..its one of the best tracking software out there....ppv is all bout tracking and data

Wow.....great detailed post hustler. Some really good info here. I like how you actually tell people what your doing and your method, as opposed to other so called successful paid marketers, who start a thread ranting about making $1000s per day, yet don't tell you how they actually got there, LOL. It's like, why even make the post if your just going to brag and/or be extremely vague about your process! ;-)

As for your comments......

- I'm about to step up to TV myself. I'm just awaiting for approval, which should be as early as tomorrow, as I already received the questionnaire from them. Been using LI for the time being. So I assume most of your success has been with LI only eh?

- Yep....I only try out lead offers myself over $4+ payout. Have heard of others using $25+ payout offers with email opt-in forms and a strong autoresponder followup in order to be successful. Takes more time to build up, but can be worth the reward. I may try it out once I have more success with lead type offers.

- I hear ya on the direct linking, but everyone tells me to stay away from it like the plague! ;-) I come from a graphic design background, so I can create a LP in under 10 mins, plus most of the offer pages I find won't fit within the specified pop window. If you can get some good converting direct link offers, more power to ya, but I always prefer LPs over anything.

- Rotating the SAME offer from different networks with different landing pages makes complete sense! I was speaking about rotating completely different offers with different LPs, which just seems a bit convoluted. I know about checking with other networks for the same offers, but I'll have to expand out to more CPA networks in order to do so. I think I have around 8-10 now (some established, some are not).

- If I have an $8 offer, I'll usually set the campaign budget to $8 per day, running Mon-Fri. By the time friday comes around, if my total LP clicks are low to the offer (below 100), I'll change up my landing page as it obviously sucks and try running it again if I feel the offer has a chance. If the LP receives well over 100+ clicks, with no conversion to the offer, then yes....absolutely......there is a problem with the offer and the campaign probably needs to be killed.

As in your example with the $50 offer payout, which I would never personally try without an email opt in and strong autoresponder followup series, I would set the cap to around $200-$250 without any conversion before I would consider killing the campaign. ;-)

I really like the idea of setting up an auto responder and using ppv to drive optins. I'm just lazy and not the best writer, so making the whole auto responder series seems to be a pain in the ass. On the other hand a great business model with PPV would be to collect the optins and sell list blasts. I see people selling 200 clicks for like $125 which is really outrageous. If it works for them more power to them, can be very profitable. Offer a free book or whatever for your targets, get them to optin then sell swaps.

Ahhh, you raise a valid point with opt-ins. If you can't get your money back initially off PPV campaigns, you can probably make some decent scratch off selling the list or leasing it out for solo ads.

Hi str8thustler,

Is there a way to track embedded search boxes or search engines?

For example, you embed the Google search bar on your landing page.. How do you track this as there are thousands of destination URLs..

Basically, I would just like to track the referrer URL and if there's a click on the "Search button"..

Is there a way for this?

Which verticals do you bud prmote? (health, email submits, bizopp etc)

Do you use cloaking?

Thanks!

The basics of PPC tracking you can track the targets that get to your landing page and then the conversion pixel fire from the advertiser holds that target. I can see how you could track the traffic that gets to your landing page but somehow tracking the users typing into the google search bar or if they click. I'm not exactly sure on. Did you check Google analytics and see if it tracks that info? Usually what happens after the visitor hits your landing page is tracked by the affiliate companies tracking pixels. What you could look into is video analytics. It records short videos of what users do once they reach a certain page. In theory you could put it on your landing page and review them afterwords, kind of a pain in the ass but it could give you a general idea.

I'm not really sure how possible your combo is because of the search query code google uses after a user types in the query and hits search. A script would somehow have to parse that info to track it for you.

I run insurance quote / auto/ home / life and biz-ops / law firm offers / anything I can find a demographic / target match. Rarely will I run an email submit unless the payout is pretty good, which they usually aren't. But I can't give away all my secrets lol.

Thanks!!

You get what I'm asking about.. And I've got my answer..

What's up with Health offers? You think they could convert?
