Once you have a blog receiving a good number of traffic the next thing is to consistently publish valuable content,
the content must be well researched and seem like the breaking news type of information.

Good advice above. You need to optimize your sites to be "Silos", so that PR properly flows through each page on your site no matter what you link to.

Make sure your posts have on-page seo optimized for your keyword.

Then it's all about building relevant, high pr backlinks to your site.

Here's my suggestion:

Look up some smaller tech companies, review their products and send them the reviews. Encourage them to use summarized versions of your reviews on their website as long as they link back to the original article.
This should bring in much more natural traffic and backlinks in the process!

if you've got an audience, but they still don't want to read what you write... maybe you should start looking into how to write more compelling articles and headlines.

I think all of people above have posted good SEO-related solutions.

Let me give some unrelated to SEO advices :
- Conduct interviews with famous people. Depending on what your niche is, sometimes they are quite easy (or very hard) to find.
- Send emails to every company that is related to your niche (for example : send these to forex companies if you are into economic news) stating that you own this such and such, and willing to have a good relationship. Most of them will send you their press release if they do something.
- Create bombastic news, with hyperbolic titles and great content. Use social media for dissemination. Criticize censorship. Or Google. Or whatever.
- Create well-researched articles. Research things that people don't know yet, or things that don't be find easily in the internet.
- Use a well-made info graphics to entice users.
- Go to every tech event in your city. Pretend to be a reporter for this and this website. Before going there, email them first telling them you would come.

I have been through this also, mate. Years back my news site stalls, but in these 3-4 years it's in the top-5 news sites in my country, and now I'm expanding to other niches.

Branch out to Twitter. Remember that when you follow someone on Twitter, they will most likely follow you back - which is a free view of your site and message. Facebook is also good. Linking the two (which is really simple now) is also recommended.

Quit spending money on outscourding articles (unless you write ALL of them by yourself) and invest some on social activities (Facebook, Twitter, etc).

Also create a list of forums/questions that people ask according to your articles. You can outsource forum posting (QUALITY forum posting)
and earn passive traffic from the threads answered by you (or your outsourcers).

Invest some in SEO.

But make sure your content has some quality in it before applying all of the above.

I think there's a load of great advice here, without the information you need to diagnose your problems. My take:

1) what key words are you targeting - if none, do some KW research, otherwise, go to step 2
2) where do you rank for your keywords - try whatsmyserp to understand where - if high (top 10) then go to 3, otherwise 4
3) what volume of searches do these KW get (from Google KW tool) - if less than 500/month go to 5

4) you need to optimise - more backlinks, better on-page, plenty of tips available
5) you are aiming for too small a target
a) look for better keywords within your niche
b) niche up (ie expand your focus)
c) if neither of these lead to decent volume, move on.

I suspect you are stumbling at step 1 - KW selection

Getting indexed, especially in news, is the hard part - should be easy for you from here.
