BitCoin and Cryptocurrencies - Will they fail? My 3 Predictions!

I don't understand how that relates to ZH being completely wrong about the last correction.

People who follow the market (both types of investors, in your scenario) know better. The only people it would really affect would be those who are not invested in BTC, and/or are not following the markets at all.

I am sorry, I wasn't clear from your comment :

yes and no. I doubt a lot of ZH readers are heavily invested in BTC, so if they are saying Senate Hearings caused a correction, it doesn't really matter, because the people who ARE invested in BTC know otherwise.

I read it as the everybody invested in BTC know otherwise. All I am saying is there are a number of BTC investors who also know shit and are following the herd. Not all investors in BTC have faith in it and not all have remarkable insight.

I feel like everyone is ignoring the political implications of Bitcoin.

If a virtual currency grew like this, let's say it accounted for just 1% of all transactions in the United States, it would affect at least $30,000,000,000 in tax money. Do you think any government is going to let 30 billion dollars slip? No!

They will simply either kill Bitcoin, making it illegal in the United States, or police it, and tax it like normal USD. For the people saying, well they made drugs illegal and look I'm high right now, yeah, that works for things you don't normally file taxes on. But what happens when the IRS does a yearly check up on your business? And don't you think the US can track things like Bitcoin? They are far more advanced than the Bitcoin system itself, and can track the contents of every email or message sent in the United States. That's part of the reason they aren't worried right now, they are just waiting for it to become something more significant than a penny stock, and if somehow it does, they can handle it quite easily.

If You Believe In Bitcoin, You Should Never Buy Anything In Bitcoin

Many Bitcoin believers think that the digital currency will one day become the pre-eminent currency of the internet. They basically see it becoming the internet's version of gold in that it's naturally scarce, independent, virtually impossible to manipulate, and crucially suited for a digital world when money ought to be able to be moved seamlessly and at no cost.
Well here's a tip: If you think that this is true, then never use Bitcoin in a transaction.
As more people have gotten into Bitcoin, the price has gone way up.
Virtually everyone who has ever bought anything in Bitcoin has been a huge loser, who would have been better suited just holding onto the Bitcoins instead.
Remember the pizza that was purchased for $US25 in Bitcoins years back? Had the person not bought that pizza, it would be worth nearly $US3 million. That purchase was a catastrophic decision, as that was probably the most expensive pizza of all time.
Of course this presents a Catch-22. How can Bitcoin become a real currency if it's not used in transactions? And why would anyone use it in transactions if becoming a real currency offers so much more price appreciation? This contradiction is a core problem, and it's a reason why it's probably doomed to fail (real currencies don't have this issue, since central banks prevent rapid price appreciation, and they mandate that the currency be used).
But really, if you're thinking that Bitcoin is going to be huge, it'd be insane and irresponsible to buy anything with it.

yet, daily transactions are over double what they were last year. people are using them, and after China gets used to having btc for a while, it'll stable out, kinda like the last few months around $100-130. Since we've gained more users, so the value will settle out at a higher price, probably $200-250 -ish.

India and the middle east and probably the US and South America will all eventually have major BTC bubbles over the next year or 2. It's the same pattern once a major market opens up and you have an influx of newbies.

In between those events, we're in currency mode. And people use their bitcoins.

Yes, I can see many South American countries and those with less stable economies/currencies adopting it:

I take it you haven't read the whole thread, mate.

I'll admit, I haven't quite read the whole thing, it isn't too short lol.

But I mean most of this argument has been about things like the theory of the currency, instability, things like that, when really once you look at the big picture, which is headed up by political implications, there isn't anything you can even argue for bitcoin that's semi-reasonable...

I from SG recently news also mention about bitcoins ,
some locals here also invest on it and use it to purchase stuffs.

some people feel who knows one day government will try to control.
next heard thailand ban it? they label as illegal currency ..whatever.

I feel is like back to those days like e gold?

last time I got scam on it....
thus I can't trust on bitcoin this time.

summary still trust real payment ..via paypal or other online payment

Well I agree with what you are saying and I have tried to make a case that Govt will interfere.

Why This Bitcoin Price Explosion Isn't a Bubble

Liberty Reserve's Shutdown: Is Bitcoin Next in Line?
http://www.calculator.co.uk/2013/06/liberty-reserve’s-shutdown-is-bitcoin-next-in-line/

Consider this before buying Bitcoin for spec.

When Bitcoin becomes a tool of finance pros, the entire market could collapse in 10 minutes making them millions and leaving you broke...
The market micro-structure that results from Bitcoin being conceived by crypto-mathematicians and not economists or markets experts results in a vulnerability not present in traditional currency markets.
The Bitcoin is a unit of digital currency with scarcity controlled by the complexity of an iteration of a recursive computation. Output of each iteration is archived on independent non-centralized servers (a process called "mining") and the validity of the output is readily ascertained with a negligible fraction of the computational work required to perform an iteration.
It would seem that Satoshi Nakamoto never intended his crypto-currency to be a speculative instrument because the Bitcoin protocol makes an obvious priority of the validation process at the express (if not intentional) expense of liquidity: to prevent double spending or double-mining (forking) the Bitcoin transaction protocol requires at least 10 minutes to compute.
The resultant effect on Bitcoin market microstructure should be obvious, then.
Say a Bitcoin market participant should choose to sell a large volume of the currency. Because each transaction is broadcast to a network that is — by design and necessity — public and publicly observable, the entire market could become privy to such an event and would have a significant time window (at least 10 minutes for each limit order filled by the aggressive seller) during which to pull their bids so as not to get run through by the anticipated downward price action. Therefore, the asymmetry in the time required to transact (minutes) versus the time required to cancel a bid (seconds) will precipitate a liquidity drain in the face of a large seller.
As would happen in any currency market (digital or traditional) there will be a bandwagon effect. However, we can expect the Bitcoin price action to go parabolic or exponential due to the non-instantaneous nature of each transaction giving bidders an insurmountable time advantage over aggressive (bandwagoning) sellers.
Of course it could be argued that the same effect is possible to the up-side as well. However, because the majority of Bitcoin market participants seem to be un-sophistocated (or at least poorly capitalized relative to the central banks that dominate traditional currency markets) most likely sellers are profit-taking (ie, removing risk) whereas buyers are ‘risk-on'. So, the large-seller effect described above can be expected to be both the more pronounced in magnitude of price move and more devastating in terms of wealth destruction.
If you or anyone you care about plans to buy Bitcoin for spec, expect the inevitable avalanche and take a moment to educate yourself or him/her about how to use a limit cover order in conjunction with a stop-loss order (in one-cancels-other or OCO configuration). And expect severe slippage on the stop-loss price.
Thank you for reading and good luck!

individual trades on exchanges are not broadcast to the network. so, this scenario doesn't hold true

bitcoin is upconsiderably this morning, I wonder if ZH and business insider will blame it on the Senate hearings. :D
