Should I point backlinks to root domain or articles url?

This may sound a bit dumb, but I'm new on this SEO business and trying to start a small site going on.

The site has the homepage and then a blog with multiple posts targeting 2-3 keywords. I add weekly a post or two.


The domain is a EMD. When building backlinks should I point to my articles or my main domain?

I do both, as I target 1-2 long tail in each article.

Mix it up and then do internal linking well, it will help.

You will want to mix it up. For links that point to you homepage, make sure that you have a lot of branded anchors for. Either the site same or the plane site url. For your blog posts, only try to target a couple keywords for each article. It also doesn't hurt to have some branded links to those pages. By reinforcing your blog pages, it will help boost your overall site. But what it comes down to ultimately is where does it make sense to have the link go. If it is fitting for a blog post, go for that. If it is a more general link, then it would probably be more appropriate for the home page.

I always want it to look natural. So I build backlinks slowly pointing to every post. Combine the backlinks with social signals it will work like charm Because the whole domain will be slowly getting trust and authority.

After the recent update, I wouldn't bother throwing links at the homepage, inner pages only but have a link to the homepage on all pages so some link juice filters through.

Do both and focus more on the page with the best keyword or need ranking.

If you can build a strong home page and blog, it will really aid your inner pages and post rank easily/effortlessly.

Mix it. Point your backlinks to posts, root url, category url, tags, etc.. don't forget to link to naked url also.

You rank your main more general keywords on your homepage, and your longertail keywords on the inner pages. It's as simple as that. That takes care of spreading your incoming links all across your site. Yes, absolutely interlink your posts also.

More often than not, ranking internal pages for their optimized keywords you help your homepage to rank higher for what it is optimized for, and vice versa.
