So I'm pretty new to SEO hopped in and then was going to be doing the pyramid back link scheme. I setup a page used a online TOS template for adsense. Forgot about the site and 5 days later comes back and my site was on the first page. No back links just a keyword and one page.

Now this page was beating out warrior forum and some other sites.

I say this to say that, the form of link building that worked a few weeks ago no longer work. Google said that manual links don't work anymore. Hummingbird killed it, penguin and panda weakened it drastically since they flag spammy sites and any sites getting good juju from spammy sites get bad juju.

Anyone have any thoughts?

*the thoughts about are expressed by a human being with about 1 month seo experience.

1 month.. you shouldnt know what penguin and mostly hummingbird is.. apply, and look

Well you would be right If I just hopped in and starting throwing everything at the wall but I have 4 domains and 3 of them ranked on 1st page w/o any back links although I do internal linking so that posts point to different internal pages of the domain.

Also about not knowing what penguin, panda and hummingbird does. I take a look at what google say, what the white hatters talk about, the results of what black hatters say, look at what people who are successful in this season site shows and then look at sites of people who have had troubles.

Usually if you have some time to run the free *i'm cheap* manual way to examine a site and see what the winners and what the losers are doing. It becomes a little clearer at what is going on.

Also listen to that cutts guy from google. That's what i've been doing, I don't have anything to sell so I won't say i'm a seo master but I believe if anyone is saying they know what's going on is definitely trying to sell u something.

I also find it interesting that even today so many people are still selling backlinks, google said that manual links are getting phased out for serp position, so why sell something that is if not useless today will be in a few more penguin, panda season?

create a site and have your readers want to come back and want to share/like/tweet and everything else will fall into place. I agree with you OP. I have experienced similar. Even on semi competitive niches. I won't get into super competitive it is too cut throat. When building sites I pick topics I enjoy and add information I enjoy and display it in a fashion where people will bookmark and return because the site adds value.

SEO is somewhat overrated. It does play a part in the game but not as much as people think.

OP, can you confirm that the site has only been up 5 days.

If it has only been up 5 days I wouldn't start celebrating yet.

Thas my namecheap dashboard, see the site created on the 27th. I've since created a few additional domains to test and they are all showing similar results. (they've been on the 1st page for 5 days straight) even though I haven't done any additional seo trick just basic white hat on page seo with a wordpress blog.

As far as clearing cache I do that, I also use vpn to access them from a remote location as well as mobile phones. For the content that's on the page these sites shouldn't be anywhere in the top 100 pages but this one especially is first page.

Ok I'll challenge you. Send me your keyword and I'll bet you'll be out ranked by next week. A lot of those new, no backlink, white hat websites are ranking by default after penguin 2.1. The first sentence of your post clearly disqualify you to make such statements.

Well of course I'm not going to post my keywords here, also I am not "White Hat" I'll do whatever (in reason) to get where I need to be.

This post was just to talk about the idea of tiered link building. Especially since the google guys who are writing the search engine algo are saying as much. I'm not on a white hat site, I'm on a black hat site because I need results. I was commenting on the fact that even though back links in the traditional sense are dead, why are people still selling those services.

I'm doing what most of the people here always say, "try things, get your results and bring them back to share and discuss it."

I'm not even pretending to be anything I fell into these results but since I've duplicated it a few times as you can see from my domain purchases. I'm also looking for other peoples experiences.

Ok, I wish you much success in your I.M career. I have to go build some backlinks now.

lol. this guys smarter than all of us. backlinks are dead, were all scammer.

OP, clear your cookies first.

second what keywords are you ranking for, check to see they are actually keywords, i can rank a site in 2 day for "my silly penguin just ran over a monkey".

third, post this thread in 2 weeks after your rank solidifies and you see where you truly are.

I'll keep you guys updated but Matt Cutts from google webspam team said, paraphrase
Brafton previously covered a Google Webmaster Help Channel video in which Cutts told marketers that it's better to focus on the bigger picture of content creation. Brands want to produce resources for their target audiences -customers - and not search engines.

He suggested that some companies become derailed in their search marketing efforts, striving to climb to the top of SERPs by mastering technical practices rather than thinking about what will compel visitors to return time and time again. It's the latter that will win out in the end, he advised.

more can be found here : http://www.brafton.com/news/seo-alert-penguin-2-1-live or check out Cutts twitter or any of his recent google hangouts.

yeah...search around the forums to see how often ANYTHING matt cutts says is right. If he told me the sky was blue I would bet that it was green.

Backlinks will always be there. Its the backbone of how G determines if the content has value. We are still not at that age where G algo can actually understand the contents of a page in human terms and give value to it. We'll need real AI for that. Perhaps then human behavioral signals like backlink and social links will be obsolete.

What the heck is good / bad "juju"?

like bad magic, sorcery, etc....

And to quote that I lost my original post, damn.

Okay so what was I saying.
The site in question has been pretty stable position 4 for some time now : bb9f3cd12a764d4d52710d3529493d95.png I created two additional domains that I setup for a huge market but it seems they got sandboxed, they were last indexed over a week ago, they show up when I do inurl but other than that, not in the top 20 pages. You can see from the above screenshot. Oh also take a look at the date.

Another thing, your right backlinks will always be important to google. I learned something these last few days which is good to know. I guess I should refine my statement, using automated tools that spams the web with your backlinks are dead. There are good solid ways to do backlinking which I found on this forum and those methods still and will most likely always continue to work.

I will actually go that direction and see if it works. I'll post more about that on my journey thread once I get some time. As for now I realized that the two sites that I setup I'm going to ditch one and focus on building links to the other. See if I can unsandbox it and put it at the top of the charts.

This is another update, check out the date: siteranks.jpg
My other two sites seemed sandboxed to hell but it's okay I realized why it happen. I'm most likely going to remove them.

The site ranking has 0 back links just on page SEO.
