Those guys waiting for recover will be disappoint, update finished. You gonna to face this disaster, to recover by your own hand instead of begging/expect on big G. what i notice as below:
1. Google weight heavy on loss backlink quantity/loss speed in new Penguin 2.1.
2. Anchor text density gonna harm to your money site. necked backlink are weight heavy in new Penguin 2.1
3. Black link insert in government website or EDU website did great work, perfect No.1 solution among all SEO methods. SEO guys should switch their job to free plugin development or learn more hack knowledge.
4. Advertising backlink, banner etc. on high PR websites weight heavy and become No.1 best quality backlink.
5. Directory submit still work, especially submitted to relevant category.
6. Neg SEO will be more easier to do, just blasting High PR websites with high density anchor text with junk content, or create blogs by keep spam junk contents high density backlink that sooner or later your account will be deleted by those annoying website owners, that soon lost thousands of backlinks like a nuclear weapon bomb.
7. Matt Cutts keep saying lies try to mislead SEOers and hide what they real did, don't trust what he said.

Don't complaint, don't report you got hit, that's sh1t and useless, just provide what you observed and share with us.

add one more observed result:
8. buy a Google adwords which not spend much money monthly will protect your current spam work. Google will pretend didn't see you are doing spam right now, so you can got rank on other keywords by spam.

the best is to stop doing black hat to money sites or you will face the music in long term. Black hat is fine for short term sites but for long term quality content and quality links is the way to go.

Good thread, but I am waiting till the end of week to check stats and analyse, ranking too jumpy for now, I ll be back here and share .

LOL so true. Can't argue anymore.

One strange thing I found about this recent update was that sites with no backlink but good content (10+ pages) increased their rankings.

On the other hand sites with backlinks but very few content got slapped or decreased their SERPs.

This is what I have concluded so far:

1. Good content
2. Social Signals
3. Good on-page SEO

Can't agree more. OP you can take a cue from this post.

Even with good quality sites and clean backlink profiles, no guarantees google is not going to slap you in the face.

Just finger crossed or pray to god in that case.

You are so right!!

Now I read your post and I analyze my tanked sites and it is described as you did.

But anyways, I did not expect a shit of these sites, so I didn,t take so much care.

Did they actually increase their rankings or did sites ranking above get slapped out of the SERPS ?

In my network of sites I have one site with ONE lousy page of content and NO backlinks or anything that is now ranking and it never did before. In fact, I just made it as a decoy site . No one really knows what is going on for sure here.

Well who cares.. What we actually want is our site on the top. That''s it. You should only be concerned about eating fruit not counting trees.

Actually, you should care. If you went up just because others got slapped, then you pretty much got lucky. Doesn't necessarily mean your SEO was good, only that it was probably cleaner than the slapped sites'. Which brings up the question, how will you rank against WELL optimized sites, which keep ranking and improving.

Nowadays, it becomes very easy to rank a webpage to top, one big defect of Google technology is, current Google technology can't not identify some spam method that it's supper easy to rank a webpage to No.1 position. the only way to identify those spam is by manual, i hope Google can hire more people to do this low tech work, then Google going to die.
more bad news to google is NEO (negative SEO) will make a final slap that may ruin Google alg.

Disagree with every point.

1. My site had great content.
2. My site had a fair amount of social signals.
3. My site has perfect on-page SEO.
4. My site had about 70 pages of content in a niche where your avg site is 5 pages big.

I'm about 99% confident the reason my site tanked was none of the 4 above reasons.

The only thing I can imagine harming my site was the private network links I was buying
from a guy on WF. He had a clear record for a very long time, but this recent update I
believe google slapped a few of his network sites, and the result was a huge drop in
rankings for me.

I never got an manual or automatic spam notice. So I believe Google is going after
high pr networks very aggressively. If you think about it, what is the most effective thing
BH marketers are doing these days to rank sites?

Imho, its private networks.

So if Google becomes better at detecting these networks, they can take a lot of people
out of business.

Vague question here, but what constitutes quality links? I've been trying to work it out for a while now. I figured high PR and niche relevant. Though I heard PR will soon be ditched which sucks pretty bad.

PR won't be ditched...it's just being removed from the google toolbar. They still will have their own internal PR system.

PR as we know it WILL be ditched. The patent expires in 2015, at which point it will become public knowledge. They've likely already migrated to some other metrics to replace it, which they use internally.
