You're right, that 10% of the brain myth is fictitious. Each part of the brain has a specific function. For example, the medulla oblongata is dedicated to your vasomotor and respiratory system, the prefrontal cortex is responsible for your personality and social behaviour, the cerebellum deals with motor control, etc. As for the potential of the human brain, I once read an article that claimed that if someone managed to increase the number of synaptic connections in the brain (which ostensibly form with new memories), you could greatly enhance your memory.

Every time I hear the word "hack" I get reminded of a pseudo-intellectual I went to school with who said aloud to the entire class, "Yeah, I'm a computer hacker. I always hack into Facebook accounts and stuff". When I asked him what programming languages, scripts, or tools he used, his response was, "What's that"?
