Google update just now? 10/4?

Based on around 160 websites, this thing is fucked. No pattern, nothing. Some sites with spun web2.0 links - hit; others not hit. Some with top notch content/links hit, others not hit. Some with tier links hit, others not hit. Some sites with links from 100% private blog posts hit, others not hit.

Fuck it does not make any sense.

There are patterns. Google is demoting small sites and competitor web 2.0's. Basically they're consolidating the big brands and screwing all small sites. Plus, using its monopolistic position to demote Yahoo and other web 2.0's from competitors.

i actually have two clients that regularly use bhw services that were not negatively effected (both of them went up, one is even past craigslist in his niche now)
however the one that uses them the most was seriously effected

What bartosimpsonio is saying is correct, some people may just slam it as a conspiracy theory but its business. They have the biggest search engine in the world and they are using that to monopolies the internet to gain as much profit as possible, Annoying but true.

I have done a test that i started just after the last update consisting of many different sites i made to determine what the update was all about. A link to it is floating around the forum somewhere.

All my keywords were also affected and now I'm on page 2-3 with main keywords. Smaller long tail keywords which are partially matching my domain are still hanging in top3 positions. Unfortunately the traffic is not enough to cover expenses.

I think the best thing to do now is just look away and pretend nothing ever happened. I'll leave this shit and check my rankings after this week has passed and hopefully I'll see my rankings settled back to were I was.

When I tell people I wouldn't buy anything from moz, they think I'm some hater or whatever.

They do not have the necessary infrastructure or know-how to keep track of so much as 1% of the WWW....they did not detect Hummingturd and did not detect this update. The question remains: how far can you go on marketing only?

I don't follow any of the junk that gets spewed out from moz, but I do find some of their tools useful. As for not detecting hummingbird, their mozcast did detect the update when it happened, they just didn't know what it was called. They mentioned there was a "possible google update" that was unconfirmed by google. I remember seeing the huge fluctuation on mozcast, it wasn't until a month later that we found out it was the hummingbird.

Their mozcast did fail pretty miserably in detecting this update though. http://serpmetrics.com/flux/ did a much better job.

Only 2 of my sites got affected negatively by this update (1 got destroyed, the other got sent to page 2), but all my other sites have been seeing nice increases in ranking. Although, this could all just be a random SERP dance before the update settles.

The one that dropped to the bottom of page 2, moved up to the top of page 2 today. But no significant increases. It was ranked #1 for all it's main/secondary keywords before the update.

There is some weird shuffling going on here, just checked my rank tracker to find some clients who lost position regained their position back. Fingers crossed, hopefully the ranking stick.

No change with my sites, but I see that some sites that have been climbing steadily for the past monts are now nowhere to be found

That is exactly what I see as well.. G just doing there part to redistribute the wealth to the 1%, and wreck the economy.

Not seen any impact on newer sites marketed after penguin oct 2012 update, however sites that were slapped by the 2012 penguin and were seeing progress before this weekend have tanked after the roll out, all speculation at this current stage no idea if its the anchor text diversity, link types or even on-page factors yet

The previous update was missed completely as well. If they knew it was an update, they'd have called it and they didn't. They said "maybe or maybe not" which to us means nothing, it's like opening CNN on election night and watching them guess who's president. Either you call it or you don't.

The bottom line is they don't have the infrastructure to track the WWW with any significance. They have a hit and miss system in place that may or may not detect something relevant. I've written personal software which can track the WWW with the level of error Moz does. Fast internet line + cheap hard drives + some basic software and robots and you've got what they sell for hundreds of dollars.

I do quite a lot of sites and the trend I have seen is the sites I do which have not had past link spam are fine but the sites that have had link spam before I started work for them have been hit. Meaning the small change they have done with the latest penguin has just got better at detecting it.

I am finding it hard to put down conspiracy because I have a lot of sites on my serpbook and the pattern has been the same. If you have been doing the link building the right away or have been doing good linkbuilding that looks natural and have great content on your site then you are gaining from this update.

Most sites I have seen go up I have not used a single web2.0 or tier system btw.

I have a large niche site that has doubled in traffic since this update.

i have 3 primary clients, 2 i've been the only one doing linkbuilding on, and 1 someone else had before me
the 2 i did all the work on gained from this update
the 1 i had someone else's mess to clean up (we got hit by penguin 2.0 when i was still in the initial assessment phases on this project) got hit HARD
about ready to duplicate site, move it to new domain and 301 the old domain into the network i built for it
