Will changing server i.p affect seo?

Basically, site has been down for 2 days due to server being ddosed, it's back up now and I have just finished downloading a complete backup of my sites. I have different hosting already purchased incase the ddos starts up again. I recently purchased a seo gig for a site and Google are still indexing the new links. Will me moving this site to a new server with a new i.p result in any issues for the seo side of things? I'm currently leaving the site on it's current host as I don't really fancy shifting it half way threw google updating with there penquin 2.1 release and also I'd like to keep a bit of faith in it's current host and hope it doesn't happen again. How ever if it does then I'm ready to jump ship to it's new server.

Not sure, but I think it shouldn't affect your rankings.

That's what I thought, but after having a quick google there seems to be some confusion.

Some say it won't if the server is in the same country and others say depends on other things, were as others areoutright refusing it would affect the rankings.

I'd imagine the i.p has nothing to do with how google would index you as it boils down to quality of your site and how you've optimized your onsite and offsite.

Hence thought I'd ask here as someones bound to of experienced the same problem at some point

had a quick search in google about changing i.p and there's alot of different opinions, matt cutts has said his self as long as the change is easy and it involves no down time then it shouldn't be a problem, that being said why would he be honest .

When I checked other forums (not to be named ) there's alot of people saying it can affect it if it's a different country (something to do with geo targetting) also the dns changing can cause issues with google. Far as I'm aware the dns of the new host isn't blacklisted by google so that's not a problem, I'm also contacting the new host now to see if I'm allowed to change server location as there wasn't a option when I signed up.

Spiders ranking pages lower based on new IP doesn't make much sense.

Many big sites run on multiple IPs, one of them which your browser is pointed via Round-robin DNS depending on your location and other factors such as server load or whether some maintenance is going on in some datacenter.

The problems with DNS changing are probably only if it takes too long to change over, then your site can't be found.

The geo targeting issue is probably just that it would look strange if your site is targeting the US, everything is made to look like you are US based but you are hosted in the Far East. This might look dodgy.

Apart from that I tend to host my sites in the country they are targeting.

I would try to make sure that when you transfer, you do it during the time your site usually receives less traffic.

This is only my opinion so could be very wrong.

Server IP does affect your rankings in the local sense. If your IP is in UK and you got .co.uk, it does influence your rankings(maybe it's because it's faster, and it's an indirect thing....who knows). Other than that, just switching to another class C address on the same net should not do anything to your rankings.

use cloudflare for DDos protection. Free is alright but if you pay for the service it i worth its weight in gold. So far nobody has taken the network out. I love that service

the dns issue shouldn't be a issue with that then easy to do.

The geo location issue I'm not to worried about if that is the case as my site isn't country specific.

Wasn't alot i could do, it was the hosts issue. Apparently it wasn't just my site that was affected so not sure cloudflare would of done much good tbh. I know the new host has cloudflare all set up and ready to go though.
