What Computer Language Should I Learn?

Okay you want the musical reference?

It does not matter what you choose as your language platform.

If you learn Piano. You can technically play every instrument, but only if you fully comprehend The Circle of Fifths, right?
If you learn Python or C#. You will be able to put any instrument in your hand, and after at least a day of practice be efficient enough to play Mary Had a Little Lamb(Code a bot in that language).

C# has a larger learning curve, but let's face it... It's the sexiest language.
Python is made to be easy to learn.

If you choose C#:
Here's the books to read through that got me coding in C# no biggie:
C# Head First
Clean Code 2
Head First Design Patterns(written for Java, you can learn java and C# without info overload////This is a great CONCEPT/MUSIC THEORY book)
Code Complete

Thats enough reading for one weekend really.
If you follow through with reading those 4 books.
Then you start doing stuff on GitHub and SourceForge. Put that on your resume....

BAM! 50,000$+ a year. Honestly, if you started now you could have that in a month.

Since you already know a bit of HTML and CSS, I would suggest PHP and MySQL.

I was asking myself the very same question a week or two ago OP and i eventually decided on Python. I had never done any serious coding/programming in the past but i'm actually enjoying learning it and it seems very straight forward. I've managed to create some pretty basic apps and just got my head around using py2exe, although I think ill be trying pyinstaller after reading this thread!

Its like the guy that compared it to writing a song. Each language is a instrument.
Personally I like vb for bot creation, one of the main reasons being the UI is idiot proof.

This is an impossible question to answer really. It all depends on what you want to achieve. If you are looking to build websites, PHP has a very low entry and tons of documentation. This will allow you to build interactive sites and along with JQuery, you can make some impressive apps.

If you want to make bots, Visual Basic is easy to learn, but it can also be done in C++/C# or Java. I think for the control aspect of things, it would be best to go with C++ or Java. There are always jobs in C++/Java as well.

I can say, however, that if you learn C++/Java etc, your next programming language will be easier to learn.

Excellent point. The downside is that going for something like C++ from the outset is pretty tough.
