First i would like to say am totally tired of my current situation. Currently am in a third world country as they call it. and down here college decision( choice of school and course of study) is mainly and most times taken by the parents leaving the child who is meant to be the center of attention out of it.

Am in the final year of a course i hate with all passion(agricultural extension) to some out there it might be the best course in the world but for me i think i have a greater calling in IM and also internet related programs. Started feeling out surveys as a newbie with my own Laptop at the age of 18(that was a great achievement for someone in Nigeria at that time...:D). Agric. Extension in Nigeria is a freaking 5 years course with little or no practicals of what you will face in an everyday situation.( currently in my 5th year but we have been hit by a nationwide school strike for the past 3 months).

To make this short. i have finally decided to take a giant step in my life, while not dropping IM as a full time something, i have decided to also move out of this country(by whatever means available) to gain a worthwhile education from the WEST(America, uk etc) and i also think this would be wise for my IM life.(many uncertainties such as light, internet etc are not stable in the country unless you are ready to burn a large chunk of money on gasoline and below par internet connection), it is worth of note that my 22nd birthday is in a couple of days from now, so i guess i still got time in life to explore lots of opportunities. though some journeys by some 14-16yrs in BHW really gets me thinking of the life that i lead.:)

Now the main Question from me to all of us is, what college courses could pair well with IM, what schools i which country would you recommend considering that i will actively remain in IM while i study.
Thanks guys, looking forward to replies that could help.

For IM? None. You can perfectly educate yourself online. You want tools, tutorials and documentation? Available online. You want reputable academic courses? Available online.

OP Wish you well going forward but a friendly tip hope it helps with your confidence and self esteem...

Only the uneducated and common trailer trash ilk and the like would refer to your country as - 'third world country' - now my friend get that chip off your shoulder...

Because you have the rights to face the world on an equal footing and parity...

Nota bene if you meet folks on your coming travels who feel inclined to disparage and critique you - hold your head high - ignore and move on...

Good luck buddy and start being a bit more active on BHW (to learn more) and remember your targets are achievable...:)

Thanks jazzc for the reply, am not really concerned with courses i could take in college to upgrade my IM knowledge am just curious about courses i could take in college that would not conflict with my IM carrier( for me, taking a course in Medical science and doing IM fulltime would conflict alot) so am talking of somthing that could flow with my current choice of carrier.

And also am not rulling out the fact that my country is growing rapidly even in the midst of many uncertainties. so there is an 80% chance i would return one day to change the face of IM there or even pushing my own platform where things like IM as a whole could flourish.
Thanks once more.

Would have been more active here just as i mentioned, the electricity and internet here is really not something to talk of, but i guess i am over that now. at least i have been able to stick out some funds that would help me going for some months. All thanks to BHW:notworthy

still waiting for you guys about college and country suggestions..:bump:

Where do YOU want to go? What are YOU interested in studying?

You can do IM from almost anywhere at anytime.

Well the best thing for you will be to find a country which have low college/university tution fees and easy visa/immigration law.

Being born in third world country have its own consequences, like you have to do a lot of effort even to visit or immigrate to Europe/USA.

About the education i will recommend you to learn anything professionally which you are really intrested in it doesn't matter it is Art, Cooking or any other field.

Just look for a education in which you can go further and enjoy learning it.

In the process keep your IM career like a Hobby, and educate yourself by internet.

@Lalore, like i said in the first post am looking for suggestions for courses in sciences to be precise that can be paired with IM, and about doing IM from anywhere i agree to that but in some cases its wise to be at a place where its a lot cheaper and secure. Taking My country{Nigeria} as a case study, i spend $100 on an 8GB metered internet connection a month, approximately $300 a month on gasoline cuz of the epileptic power supply. so in a month i spend roughly $400 on things that should cost far less in well organized country.

This was my point in asking you what YOU were interested in doing.

Math > Statistics > Data Analysis

Sorry for not being helpful. Good luck on your quest.

What Jazzc said.

The answers to IM.. are all online. Just be cautious and don't get scammed. Too much.

thanks mate, but my concern doesnt rest with learning IM but rather its about gaining knowledge that could help me in future. and more so i cant just leave home just for leaving sake. This will also be funded sorely by me.

Programming fits nicely with IM.

Hi I am a Nigerian Too and i will surely tell you that 9ja is no 3rd world country. I spend just 3 dollars in Per month for unlimited internet connection while i pay nothing for electricity over here at Awka or Enugu I am an undergraduate too and i appreciate BHW for the quality IM Information it offers users. I Suggest you can make it here in our nation. Getting education in the IM Industry is mostly from the internet. You can PM me for any other Info. Thanks

@ Jazzc thanks so much for the suggestion, that has been the only possible course on my mind too.

I'm on the same plate, studying geography which doesn't fit IM lifestyle at all, losing 5-6 hrs daily for nothing (don't ask me why I do this, I just have to).

But this life is so much better, work in pajamas, go out whenever you like and make in a day more than others make in a month, totally awesome.

For the knowledge, Internet is a perfect source, I could learn ANY college course from torrent books only, so if it's IM, don't go anywhere searching for gurus, open Google and you're halfway there.

I wish you the best, read success-minded books, get rich, make the most out of your life.

@ gabrava are you kidding me!!!!! been in this for quite a long time now and you are talk as if am not a citizen of the country.(no offence). to be precise,a standard 5GB connection from an internet provider called MTN(i believe you know them) goes for 8000 in dollars that's $50 and that runs out before the end of the month meaning you need double of that.(it is also dependent on the bots, software's, etc you run). am not saying IM isn't good here but the cost is way too outrageous here. imagine charging a client $250 for a design job and you spend more than 70% of that on expense alone..it sucks man.

OP, I just skimmed through this thread so forgive me if this has been said:

Don't drop your course yet, if you are on the final year of a 5 year course you may as well finish it.
Even if it is a bullshit course at least completing it will be an accomplishment that may benefit you later on.
If you had been in your 1st year then I would have told you to drop it.

Good Luck

I dont use MTN Again For Internet Access cos their service is costly and sometimes, its not reliable. I use Glo or Etisalat and i mostly use Tunneling Tools like PDProxy, Freedom or TunnelGuru. I am currently using Glo and I pay 600 Naira a Month for an unlimited Tunelguru Plan. I don't buy any Diesel or Fuel. As a Nigerian and a 4th Year Elect Elect Under Grad in Esut currently doing Industrial Attachment although ASUU Strike is still on, I don't advise you comoting out of the country but stay here and cut your expenses and change your locality to some other place where you could achieve more but if you still want to leave, then i suggest courses like Computer Science or Programming. let others tell you which school will be good and Affordable. I do Fiverr, Affiliate Marketing and other IM Businesses. I would posted my mobile so that you could text or call me but i don't know if its against the forum rules so You Fit PM to talk more things. Like the person above me I would also suggest to finish what you started.
Even if you only finish it for the sake of finishing it.
It'll be good for you in the long run.

As far as moving somewhere else - think about this:
Whenever you go, there you are.

That means that solely moving to another country will change absolutely nothing.
Or in other words - if you can make it at home, you can make it anywhere.
If you can't make it at home ... well, you can figure it out.

Internet is a country-less and border-less place at the moment so take advantage of that.
