if two sites where exactlt identical, same content, same age, same backlinks, the .com site would be above the .info site

....especially when they are trying to sell something. C'mon you spent .99 cents on a domain name and I am going to believe your product is actually worth buying?

Actually, .info have been much used for spam, autoblogging and BH in general, so it is easily suspected but after a while, when you get trusted, I cannot see a difference...

I have a site with a .info extension making me over 2,000.00 USD a month right now. And Yes it is all about selling something on this site of mine which is doing well.

I like to use .info for information with a keyword such as cameras.info (note: No cameras.info isnt mysite just an example of a domain name I would use) and then my content is about how to buy cheap cameras than retail. And links to ebay amazon etc. Converts Good.

Depends also how many sites you build and how disposable they are and what are their purposes
If you are putting up 100 sites a month to get links and traffic then $100 is a lot cheaper than $1000 if you know that these sites will eventually get banned.
Thats precisely why .info are associated with spam because they are so disposable.

People asking why buy .info... well maybe the .com isnt available for the keywords that are needed.
I have a .info that is doing pretty well... not #1 spot but it does ok for low competition keywords.

There are many uses for .info domains, and price is a huge factor when using 100's of domains for cl posting, cloaking, spamming forums. The .info saves you a ton of money. I perosnally haven't noticed a difference in rankings from a .info to a .com. Squidoo is free and yet you can outrank many other .coms for the same keywords.

This is why I pay $200 a month for a single shared hosting account....I can afford it and if it costs more, it must be better! Right?

Agree totally with wmitchell, Info domains are useful for a number of BH methods. As far as promoting two very similar white hat sites a info vs. com i've never tried it but that would be an interesting test.

Otherwise I've never really noticed any problems having an info get indexed or move up in rankings for keywords I want but maybe I'm not micromanaging them enough to notice.

When I go on a domain buying binge (it happens a lot), I'll sometimes go ahead and get the .info domain if the other TLD's are already taken. They're cheap and I always make money from them. Of course it's ideal to have the .com or .net, but if they aren't available, a .info domain can and should be used to make money.

The only one that has a negative effect is the .info because a while back they were only 1$ perfect for us blackhaters, however if you register it for a Long time and put quality content up there shouldn't be much of a difference between it and a .com
