Simply Link your Google+ profile url in your Author page ( Eg: Andrew is a Author name)

1. Create a link like this <a href="http://plus.google.com/u/profileId?rel=author">Andrew</a> and must place the code in about page of your site.
2. Go to google plus-->About-->Links(Edit)-->Contributor-->Submit your Url.

3. check your authorship (http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets)

well.. i did this few days back and i it was pretty confusing with lots of steps in many websites... later ended up with plugin... but this was really short n simple tutorial!! Repped!

Am I missing something? You have explained how to get Google authorship, which has already been discussed on here more than once, but I came to this thread hoping to see how to get it within an hour, as though you had some trick, as from my experience, it takes ages for author pic to show in results.
