A Newbie "Probation" Forum

Seem like the level of noob (stupid newcomer) has reached a new low when today i read a guy posted he was selling bhw ideas on dumb people forum. Can we have a forum just for "newbie" and more importantly, the mods or regular members can also see what they are posting in the newbie threads and "vote" or recommend the newbie that have posts that are useful and of decent intelligent. Then the noob(stupid newcomer) who deserve to stay in the newbie forums stay there while others smarter newbie can be promoted to access of the main forums.

In the meanwhile, they have no access to main member forums. What u guys think? Good idea worth considering i reckon.

waayyyy to much work for a forum that has around 25k members I believe. And just so you know we do have diff parts of the forum that not everyone can see. That includes yourself. If you stick around a little longer though and contribute you will be able to see the other parts of the forum as well.

Just an idea, but, how about this:

Each person who signs up, in order to open sections of the forum for them to be able to post, must pass a multiple-question, multiple-choice test. All the answers are available by just searching the forum. This would accomplish several objectives:

1: It would teach the new guys how to use the search function, hence being self-reliant. (The key to IM, in my opinion.)

2. It would eliminate redundant questions. (The answer must be here somewhere if it is on the test, get busy and find it.)

3. It would stop those who want to be spoon-fed. (You want an answer, you work for it.)

4. This could be done for each area. Allow them to be able to view a section of the forum, without being able to post, until they have at least the basic knowledge of the topic.

5. It would instill a sense of accomplishment and confidence in those who are just starting out, and a confidence boost never hurts.

I'm sure there are several more suggestions that would make this better. I'm just typing this on-the-fly.

Just turn the introduction section into ''newbie lounge'', and don't let them post anywhere but there for the first 2 weeks. After that only they will be able to post on the main forums. Normal members can go in there and spoon feed them if they like.

That way, the money making section and BH lounge will have less trash and more quality.

Well, thats the thing with a simple test. If you already know your stuff, it would take all of 5 minutes of your time, and you would be good to go.

by request that limitation should be able to be removed... and newbies should have access to the the BST, freelancer, and services for sale threads.

I agree. They shouldn't be limited if they want to spend some cash. I do think, though, that the mod approval rule should definitely apply if they want to offer items and services for sale.

Here we go with the noob bashing again.......

"Noob" does not mean 'stupid newcomer' as indicated by the OP.
Noob is a person new to a certain situation, be that playing online games or the blackhat life.
The number of posts means jack shit - I have nearly 250 posts but still consider myself a new boy to the area. If someone signs up here that has been doing this stuff for 5 years, they will have 10 posts so you view them as noob material even though they could wipe the floor with you.

As the OP has 17 posts, wouldn't that instantly make people shout NOOB?

Anyway, chill your asses down - life is a game, we all need to learn the rules and we all need to get a foot up in the blackhat world.

I haven't been here long, and all I can say is the level of 'big headed, look down my nose at you newboy' people has gone up a hell of a lot which is a big shame, this place used to be the dogs bollocks for all people whatever level they are.

Just my 2c worth but what do I know - perhaps I should set up a BH Noob site so I can give some moral support to other noobs who dare ask a question in a forum

I, for one, am not trying to "bash noobs". I suggested what I did to not only help this forum, but to help the "noobs" also. And the best way to help them is to make them help themselves. This is not a spoon-fed world, so why should this be a spoon-fed forum?

The best way to learn is to do.

If you already have experience, then a short test should be a walk in the park. If you don't then it won't hurt you to educate yourself a bit before you decide to jump into the BHW pool.

Hell, I only have 17 posts myself, and if I had to take a test even now, it wouldn't bother me a bit. Why? Because I know I could find the answers I needed, and I am not too lazy to get off my ass and find them, not go asking for someone to spoon-feed me the answers.

Randy - I agree with what you said, but thats where the difference is.

Someone who wants to take, take, take and then want spoonfeeding are not noobs, but leechers.

A noob is someone who (hopefully) ask question, figure things out and then go for it.

Leecher != Noob

Noobs get a bad press because people confuse them with people who want everything for nothing, and that is a leech

I agree with you, fatboy. And I have no use for leeches. And I am in no way trying to say that all noobs are leeches. They are not. But, what I am saying is, would a baseball team let you play, if you don't know the difference between a ball and a bat? The difference between a foul ball and a home run? Wouldn't it be beneficial for all, if everyone knew the basic rules of the game, before they were allowed to play in the big leagues?

Thats all I'm saying, just prove you know a bit about the game, before you jump into the game. It just makes it easier for eveyone.

Yes a noob should show that they have the brain to go away and play a bit after getting a bit of advice. I have had a leecher PM me lately asking me to rewrite some PHP code for them, its still there - they had zero posts, signed up the same day, no attempt at trying the code themselves....thats a leech

Anyway, been a long day and I am celebrating getting my first quid (about $1.50) in CJ so time for another beer

At the OP: too much of a hassle. Besides, noobs might not be noobs at all. Or maybe they are noobs at marketing but not noobs at programming, or writing terrific content, or whatever.

There are legit "noob" questions an there are dumb noob questions.

A legit question would be : "I tried to do xxxxx stuff, but I encountered this_____ problem" .

A dumb question would be : "How can I make money?".

I would say to not allow noobies to start a thread for 30 days and a certain amount of posts. That would help a lot and wouldn't be that hard to implement.

When i posted this, wasn't expecting 20 replies so i'll try to give my thoughts to what u guys posted as well. I was a little ticked off when i started this, IT was somebody posting something that come off lazy and it's not the first i seen.

One of those typical "what is the best way to make $$$ quickly" and another guy reply to use search and not be lazy. In the end the guy responsed with "ya i know it's there, i just wanna know". BHW is for me , such a quality forum that if anyone still post stuff like that, it just plain laziness or what some would call "leeching".


Vivala: I'm aware of that already, the one u pay $97 to get into among other stuff rite. That's more of a special rewards forum for people who contributed stuff etc etc. The newbie forum is more of promoting those who are not "f**king" things up or diluating the quality of this forum.

Randy: your idea is good, espcially point #1, #2 and #3. lol.

seantaylor: your idea is also very workable due to it being a auto software setting and not manual monitoring by humans. better than mine actually.

Toyo: your idea is probably better than mine in terms of "easing" into this plan, limited posting rights as opposed to viewing rights.

real222: stfu if u got nothing good to say.

fatboy: I'm not talking about newbie (people who just joined) but more toward newbie who are throwing up problems. The purpose is not to go on a witch hunt towards newbie but towards newvbie who are lazy and posting stuff that they obviously didn't search for.

aklisstorm: yea, it could be a hassle, i leave it to the mods to decide whether they have the resources and how much they want to implement this, i'm just bouncing an idea for a problem and it's good to see some other better ideas mentioned as well.


The benefits of a newbie forum would be to weed out those probably are gonna cause more problems and troubles that

- are too lazy to search and study and ask the ever popular "how do i make 1 million in 1 month" and stop them clouding the main forums with those posts
- spam crap to increase post count or even scammers (prevent them from instant scamming)
- learn stuff and does stupid stuff outside of Bhw such as what i mentioned earlier, promoting bhw on a/c forum (wtf) , probably why a/c knows all the tricks being used now. To be fair, these sorts are a small minority..as far as i know...

Also during their "newbie" period, they are more likely to learn the rules and take that to the main forum, at least those who eventually will anyway. If the term "newbie" is offensive to anyone, perhaps "Trial Members" forum could be used.

So that's it really. Leaving it to the mods.
