If the age of the account is less than 5 months and non-verified, then the chances of getting limited is very high IMO.
or split the money 2 or 3 ways with trusted people (give him 2 or 3 pp accounts is what I mean) and then have them transfer it to you
OR if the person is US bound, a bank transfer is easy. if you are not in the US, have someone trusted in the US receive the funds and pay into your pp in smaller installments over a period of time
hope you find a solution to this. cheers!
I don't understand what the risk is. I accept money in the thousands with paypal and you're worried about $x,xxx? Am I missing something?

No there shouldn't be any problem with paypal while receiving funds your accounts will not get limited . I have received upto 4k$ in my paypal in installment on same day . Your account may have problem when the sender files a dispute .,then nothing can be said !!!
If i understood you correctly the PayPal is fully verified, so it means that it doesnt have a receiving limit. So because PayPal is tricky the first thing you should know is that if the account is not active a lot ( and by active i mean receiving payments and sending money on a daily or even weekly bases ) than a sudden larger amount transfer ( everything over 300-500$ ) could get your account limited. But if you are using your account on a daily/weekly bases you will have no problem at all at receiving the money. And i recommend getting all the money at once instead of installments.. I am using a Fully Verified Paypal from an unsupported country for transactions with all of my customers and in 2 years i had 1 chargeback, and paypal decided they would pay the buyer instead of me because of my account activity and previous transactions.
So it doesnt matter if you bought the account or not, it matters if the account you are using is active a lot or not.
