Homepage articles for serp and link building

I made a quick search but didn't find the answer... or i didn't search well!

About homepage articles for backlinking on homepage of wp sites. Do these homepage posts have to be shown full at the home or they may be resumed, only excerpt?

what is best/effective in this case?

Even though posts appear on the home page of a wp site, they still have their own individual post pages. If you link to the home page or if someone else links to your home page, that page will receive the benefit. If someone links directly to a post page, that is the page that will receive the benefit.

Shawn, thank you for your answer, but that was not my question. For example, if I have a pr7 wp site and i want to help a friend by inserting his site link on my pr7 homepage article... does this article have to show full on my homepage for better serps for my friend?
