Best laptop for university?

To be honest if you are going for 3D, I would recommend a desktop at this price. Are you sure that you absolutely need a laptop? If you are so persuaded on laptop I have seen some good stuff on a Toshiba Qosmio a friend of mine had and it should be well into your budget.

Read what the OP requires. Going to uni requires something portable ( i believe) so try getting an acer laptop or something. It's been quite good for me so far.

Cheers,

For classes a laptop is the better choice for note taking but make sure it has at least 8 GB of RAM with a discrete graphics card. Problem is being in the states I don't know what models you have access to in order to give a recommendation.

Thanks, yh I was thinking of getting the Macbook Pro or Air but I still think that they are overpriced for the specs they have

Check with the school as to the titles and the preferred flavor of OS. Most universities remain heavily tilted toward favoring the Mac particularly on the graphics and video side.

Thanks for the info mate, Il do that first :)

Don't get a Macbook Air, please. They are absolutely horrible I had nothing but problems with one I used for work at a company I used to work for. It was so bad I never used it and just returned it to the company haha!

Thanks for the info, I was more into mackbook pro though not air but now im thinking of getting laptop from acer or something

if i was you i would investigate which operating system that the uni prefers for video and graphics. must use Mac. not sure why because you be ripped off by the specs. paying to much for the little specs you get.

you will still want to get which ever the college is using because there will be piratical classes and you will have to very quickly learn how to use that os. and it is hard to change between operating systems unless you are use to doing that. you will not be able to master this technique while at uni. no point making stuff harder on you than it already is.

i started using windows when i was in college because that is what they used for programming and i use linux but was forced to use the software they had and it wasn't compatible with linux.

You can really fly off with the budget. Not sure what circumstances are in your country, but you should go to a dealer shop and ask for the best laptop within that pricerange, which has Dos / FreeDos / Linux installed in it. Take the price and go to another dealer. After going to 10-15 dealers you will know the best price yourself.

Sorry if I am promoting piracy, but windows ........................... :P

I think you should go for a tab..Easy to Carry and Easy to Use.

Already have a tab...the problem with tablets are that they cannot run most of these CPU intensive 3D applications and I also will sometimes need to render 3D models and its really hard to do that on tablets
