so i want to buy a site say qwerty.com on godaddy,it shows that its available with qwerty.org,qwerty.net etc should i buy all of them to protect anyone else from buying the site

also say a site abcd.com is a very popular site in its niche but the owner didnt buy abcd.org so if i buy abcd.org and start copying the original website will google pass on some of the juice?

From my point of view, it makes no sense to buy more than one extension.
However, there are people in IM business who just buy all other extensions and try to sell it to original owner of .com (I got such an offer all the time).

Example: Let's say you own abcd.com . Somebody buys abcd.org and abcd.net for $10 and send you a shitty sales email, claiming that he offers it to you for $200 exclusively, and you should buy it to protect your brand.

I do not know if this business model is profitable, but people do it...

thanks for answering i meant for example abcd.com gets ranks 1st on serp so if i create abcd.org to go head to head with the original site will google give me some advantage because because the main word"abcd is same in both the sites"

You are building a BRAND extensively for your self, then probably no.

Also, be aware that GoDaddy are well known for their classic upselling technique,
where they offer you huge discounts etc... if you but it now etc....

do NOT be sucked into their bullshit,
it used to take up to 8 clicks on a Godaddy site to get to the shopping cart for checkout,
so much was their continued upsells for more domains, hosting etc....

also, search this forum for godaddy discounts, do NOT pay full price for domains... EVER,
there are always discounts available on the net, just google them :)

Also, try namecheap.com as they offer free whois protection for single domains,
rather than having to but 6 domains on GoDaddy to qualify fo r bulk doman discount (free whois protection)

One last piece of advice, beofre you buy a "cheap / discounted" domain,
always check how much the renewal fee is for the following year....
some tacky registrars offer really good deals on first year, but charge extortiante amounts for renewal, transfer etc....
just be carefull :)

Good Luck

If you are thinking about branding, then you should buy all of them IMO.

You are planning to start a big brand like facebook LOL, then you must buy all of your tld's but if you are building just a simple blog or website then you don't need to waste your moneys like this.
