Any Tips on How to Speed up a Wordpress Site?

Bluehost shared hosting is pretty slow when it comes to handling large numbers of visitors. I can usually get up to 50% speed boost when using Cloudflare with their 2nd compression setting (I forgot the name)

In order to speed wordpress.

Using Google chrome, the best is to do a right click, and click on inspection of element.
Then click on network. Refresh the page. You will be able to see the time latency for each file of a particular webpage.
For your particular website, you will be able to take action for each files it calls.

let's imagine a xxxx.js file takes 2 seconds to load. Find if it is mandatory and remove it if necessary. JS files are often the cause of many downtime and long latency. Template developer are all kind of Javascript files to their templates.

Only deep analysis of your page load is profitable. Cache does not fix the root of slow page load.


javascript is often the origin of slow pageload because javascript is a client side technology. it means your device has to do all the hard work.

Lots of template developer puts lots of javascript on their website templates today. For instance, they use scripts for mobiles. They often have scripts for backward compatibility. But if you aren't interested with users who have a super old version of explorer or android, you can remove the call to those js scripts that are loaded everytime.

Have you checked to see if you're being brute force attacked? A few of my sites got hit recently.

Drop in a plugin called limit login attempts, and see how many lockouts you get in a day. If it's a list as long as your arm...ding ding ding! You're being brute force attacked.

Make sure your username isn't admin. Try Better WP Security - you can change the address of your login page. Better WP security has a login limiter, but I prefer limit login attempts plugin because Better WP security will lock you out permanently, which just aint cool.

1. W3TC's minify (cache) file took 2 seconds to load. Configure it properly to reduce load time of your site.
2. If you're using Wordfence plugin then look for a file "humanlog" in wp-admin folder and disable it.
3. Use EWWW Image Optimizer plugin to optimize your images.

Cloudfare claims to increase loading times drastically. Never tried that service from them before, but I have heard some pretty good reviews.
