Are people seriously getting $750 for a 5 page wordpress site?

I've been in websites for a while now, the money per effort is great but getting customers is pretty hard, in addition many people are just terrible clients to work with, will make you suffer hard.for those 5 pagers, so personally I don't think its.over pricing

Business 101 - you charge what the market will bear. Because you have the resources to do it cheaper, easier or faster doesn't change the first rule of business. This is where professionals recover their costs for education and experience.

man this is business.
well look if you look the other way around, a person consulting you about accountancy for 100USD/ hour. is that hard for them to do that? hell no, that's their profession, it is like having a chat for them, they don't have to spend a dime to do busines with you, but they HOLD extremely high responsibility, just like us, we make expensive site but we hold big responsibility, not just create a site then fart then leave.
and yes, this is how service firms do, and 1 more thing, in business, there is no such thing that like fair play. getting rip off is damn normal, i got rip off sometime, just to blame my own stupidity. not people who rip me off.

Many people are stupid at what they pay. The other day a friend of mine showed me his website and asked me how much I think he paid. I had offered him website design before, but he did not bother asking me to do the job. When I saw his website it was a simple WP blog with 3 or 4 pages and a free skin with simple custom logo. He paid 1300 $ for it and defended the price. Ok, the guy is American so I thought his designer was from Beverly Hills. However, it turns out he had paid the money to a freelancer from the Philippines. He defended his price as justified. Go figure. I told him his website was worth 40$ and not a Cent more.

Our customers are paying about $3000-$6000 for a high quality wordpress site (without content).
This includes setup, configuration, template design/integration and a few adjustments for their needs.

The big question is, what are the practices to get clients (as a freelancer)? I've been having a hard time finding prospects in my area, and I'd like to hear your advices and tips

The thing is designing websites for businesses isn't as simple as getting a domain and host and installing wordpress. Sure, you can do that for quick bucks, but real web developers and graphic artists do more. How?

1. Legal liabilities - sure, you can get a logo for a fiverr but what happens when your company is involved in a copyright lawsuit? Not only logos but even the code used for design have licenses.

2. Brainstorming and research on target market and audience. You want your audience to "respond" to how your website is set up. Color psychology and such.

3. A lot more factors like SEO, branding, etc.

If your client just wants a 5 pager for the sake of a 5 pager website that he or she can show to friends and feel successful, then sure, set up a wordpress site, throw in a couple of images from shutterstock and you're done. Just don't forget to remove the lorem ipsum. LOL

But... If you own a business and you care about your brand, make sure you look for the right people to create your online presence.

I can create 3 pages website created for Google.. So, I can't actually depend on Wordpress and I will have to use my own code. In this case I'm adding a huge value to customer and I will charge money for this even if it didn't take that much time.

But selling 50$ Wordpress them for 1000 EU abusing the ignorance of people .. What about something called self-respect ! If this is not stealing the what is it ?!

I believe you get money for the value you add to the customer.. If you aren't then you are just stealing and the only reason you are not stealing in real life because there is COP and Law..

If someone really couldn't afford a 1 or 2k website, they wouldn't contact a webdesigner in the first place. They would do research and try to come up with something themselves. In the end it's only the result and the clients satisfaction that counts. What I do encourage people who would possibly try this method, never sell your websites as 'completly unique and costum made'. My brother never did but none of his clients ever bothered but there is indeed some sort of ethics to this..

For all you haters (never thought I would say that).. Go back to school and learn the basics of economy

BTW I'm not claiming a costum coded website is nearly as good as a template.. I respect all designers and their work

I'm doing Wordpress base website for senior's house here in city.
My offer was $400. And I was the cheapest. Second cheapest offer was more than $1000.

I don't charge my clients page wise. I look at the complexity of the project rather than how many pages are needed to be done. I would charge $500 for a simple CMS site(excluding design), and charge higher as the project get more complex. $750 isn't a bad sum atall.

I am also planning to do this website designing to my local Shops/business people. Even small shops/business people also interested to have a website.

I learn lots of WordPress plugin from BHW and I implemented to my personal sites. Its not as easy for me to complete the setup in a hour, as I am learner it took a day for me to complete. Basically I am a coder, but web designing is somewhat different area and we need to put lot of effort for a good website based on requirements.

Most of you will fail at offline as you look at it from your prospective and not the clients.
Charge clients based on how much it's worth to them.
Always implement tracking mechanisms so the client can see their ROI.
And the I go back and sell them other services because It's profitable for them.

Remember it's all tax allowable so they offset their cost against their tax bill and doesn't cost them a penny.

I think I was clear. I don't care how much you charge for a webdesign. Everyone knows how much his work worth..
Charge as much as you want but don't steal other themes and resell them then you tell me about economy

Exactly like selling some factory made product and sell it as yours then talking to me about Milking as much as you can. If this happens in the real world you would go to the jail.

Again: It's Okay to do some service and charge it as much as you want as long as the other part is satisfied. This is what Marketing is all about.

But selling someone's else service ( Themeforest themes ) for 1000$ and talking about Marketing.

Oh, and I'm totally okay with your brother and how he earns. He provides people with a service and hosting and people pay him and they are okay with that. Actually it would be pretty weird if hosting costs him 1$ and he asks people 1$ for it. We would call him nuts ! It's the natural thing what he did.
