Fun with .edu email address

I've just gotten a .edu email address through my alma mater... I remember trying to get one in the past, but now that I've got one, I don't remember why. What are the advantages of using a .edu email address? Any?

I can't see any advantage having such an email. If you had a .edu web page on the other hand, you'd have a nice link source.
