Do keyword research (this is obvious but worth mentioning). I was able to rank a video to #1 in google and youtube in a day, however it only provides maybe 200 clicks a month. Not very popular, however it's a new product and that MAY change. I've been able to rank more competitive keywords in a similar way but over more time. For high competitive keywords I did not rank for the exact keyword, however I somehow received a ton of traffic from unknown sources. Probably from broad match, unknown longtails, and suggestions after other videos finish.
It's about a few things.
* Video filename before you upload it to youtube, make it the same as the title of the video with your keyword
* Title, moderate length with your keyword towards the beginning. Don't over stuff, keep it to the point maybe even short.
* YouTube channel name, focused keyword/s
* 400+++ word video description with your keyword and SIMILAR and related keywords 2-3 times or 4% density
* URL in description with keyword (redirect url's work, like wpshorties or 301 via htaccess)
* Add relevant tags, some long tail and some very direct and even one word keywords.
* More videos in your channel not being promoted, but with similar niche keywords
* Add a non focused video per week or so, keep the account active
* Make sure the video is 1080p/HD
* Add some closed captions with your keyword maybe once, even if no words in the video.
* Sexy or attention grabbing thumbnail. Search for your keyword and see what others use as a thumbnail and do better
* Share it via fb, twitter, stumble, pintrest, g+ on 1-4 accounts, or pay for this if you don't want to make accounts
* Organic traffic trickles in and it explodes or crashes depending on user feedback. Good music or entertaining transitions help.
Let the video sit for 2-6 days before blasting it. LET IT AGE. Best results if you do a web2rule or similar service to send 10-20 views a day BEFORE sending 1-3k RETENTION VIEWS and continue the 10-20 views after the blast even when organic traffic rolls in.
