What does java do?
I got rid of it and don't see why its needed.
It is only required on some websites or to run Java (Jar) files locally.
It can be a security risk so if you don't require it you are better off without it.
Actually, you're going to need java to run a panoply of applications. With the JRE uninstalled you won't be able to execute a JVM, which is vital to run any program that's been developped in Java. And there are quite a few programs that are written in java.
