Best Long-Tail Keyword Research Technique / Tool?

I'll vote Google Adword Keyword tool, hehehehe.. Very basic to learn for noob..
For technique, you can grab in GAKT too, just by clicking contextual targetting tool.

I had a KW tool that does that.. in 2009! That's almost 3 years ago.

While intitle, inurl and inanchor can be useful for gauging competition, you are much better off analysing the top 10 results and looking at:

1. On-page SEO, ie: title, description, headers etc.
2. Off-page SEO, backlinks (particularly the quality of backlinks)

Also you might want to consider domain age and page rank as well.

Actually, scratch that.

Analyze the Top 3 sites because that's where you'll get traffic.

p/s: There's a tool that does this in bulk but I think I'll keep it a secret. ;)

Clyde I get what your saying, but from my experience I've found that an allintitle "keyword" under 2000 is pretty much a sure thing front page. Sure the first 3 results are important, but the first page is better than nothing. If you're going for top 3 I wouldn't care so much about long-tail. I'd go for a more competitive term and build links the page. The only purpose of the long-tail to me is to get on the first page.

Anyone who is seriously doing SEO should start using Google Adwords. Advertise on the keyword broad modified. If you want the longtailkeywords of "red bike" advertise a week (or two) on +red +bike.

If you don't have a site yet then just send your traffic to a competitor for a while.

Make sure you have enough daily budget and you are not falling of the first page. This way you also know the actual search volume instead of frikking estimates. Use Google's insight for search to find out if there is a seasonal pattern.

Now you go to download and get the search query report that gives you the exact longtail keywords your +red +bike matched on. Open it in exel and create a new column. Then make a formula that counts spaces. All keywords with two spaces are three words. Apply a filter on that column so it only shows.the two space keywords.

Voila done. You got.actual search data of longtail keywords.

P.s. Another tip. Don't try to avoid that people click on your ad. Although you get less clicks, the lower CTR will lower your quality score and raise the CPC. This method costs money. Deal with it. It is an investment.

I don't disagree with that.

I'd just like to add that you're missing out on 90% of the other keywords out there that have allintitle more than 2000, but weak first page competition.

I guess I'll just have to get to those 90% when I'm done with 100's I've found with allintitle less than 2000 lol. But by that time I'll be on another niche probably.

What's an SEO really got if he/she doesn't know KW research inside and out?

I love Market Samurai. You can literally start from scratch, find good keywords, find a relevant website name, find sources, analyze the competition for each term, the list goes on and on. It's the best all around seo tool I've ever used.

I use semrush and download keyword ranking reports from large authority sites or even article directories. Then I export all keywords in the top ten (often a couple of hundred) and analyze them. Often I get a pretty really good results, long tail keywords that small forums rank for because there is a big discussion but the EMD is still available. You can also feed that list to keyword research tools to get even more ideas (keyword researcher, keyword scout..etc). I often find really good keywords with this method that have all EMD's available and convert well once the sites are set up.

i would say adwords keyword tool and market samurai are the best out there.

I would like to suggest Google AdWords keyword analysis tool, which is really a good way to get a list of appropriate keywords. It is very easy to find a list of long-tail keyword list from Google Adword keyword research tool. This tool generates multiple keywords with some more details about the keywords like completion, Global monthly searches and local monthly searches.

Ello - Looking for techniques / tools to find Long tail keywords at least 3 words long. Anyone have any nifty techniques to sort lists from Adwords keyword tool by their word counts? Or a tool that has a large allintitle competition checker.

Thanks

There is a software which is "SEO Content Machine" software but having an option called "keyword research" i think and that is really amazing tool offer many good long tails and then you can copy it and filter out any bad ones and use them for any purpose. LSI backlinking or any other way....

Sorry I am not affiliated with them but i used many tools and thats the one which is very easy to use and really even just a part of software which have some other cool features too in it.

Even they offer free trial too and their thread is at http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackh...-matter-what-your-keyword-take-challenge.html

Give it a try may be you also like it :)

The best long-tail keyword is your Google analytics. That will be the MOST accurate data you can obtain for your site. Dig thru your analytics data and optimize your site accordingly will be your best bet.

Big corps are doing just the same. I don't see any other method more accurate than this.

but if you have a relatively new site, or a site with no traffic, then analysitcs not gonna show you anything ?

UNF + Keyword Researcher is the one I used to supercharge my keyword research campaigns. If I can put it in example, those who use Google Keyword Tool are like bicycles to my car.

Since I have only used Long tail pro, I cannot say for other tools. But LTP was pretty sweet tool.
