Is anyone making money from computer games?

I don't mean CPA or PPD with youtube videos and content locking stuff, I mean like actually selling virtual items or currency. The first 6 months after the Diablo III release I made a small fortune legitimately and made small amounts from other games recently. I'm just curious if there are any games out at the moment that people are profiting from... I hear of games like Runescape and such but I have no idea how hard some of the games like that can be to make money from or if it is even profitable. If anyone has experience from any other games, please chime in on how profitable it can possibly be. Thanks in advance for any responses!

It can be really tough to make money in virtual games but it is definitely possible. There is a huge market for online currency and there is room for arbitrage.

How I have done it in the past is to open 5-10 accounts and purchase bots that automate everything. You run the risk of losing the accounts and your investment in the accounts but that is where you will make the most money.

On another note I feel like diablo 3 is almost dead because they did not do a very good job with the game. Probably not much money left there.

Multiplayer games are full of idiots who are buying all those expensive worthless skins for certain games, and other worthless stuff, I never understood who would pay like 10 dollars for having your character in different colour, so there are possibly big possibilities to cash out on these kind of people...

That's why I was asking about other popular games, since the amount I make from Diablo III has really dried up. I typically want to stay away from bots even though they are the most efficient way. I dont have enough knowledge about them either.

I don't want to make a game, I just want to sell things in a game for real money. Or something of that nature. Are you saying you make games?

That was one of my original questions, do you know how hard or profitable it is to sell Runescape Gold? I dont want to try to make money from it if I'm just going to be wasting my time.

I don't know how well it works now, but several years ago I was making decent money selling Runescape gold and items. This was back when 1,000,000 gold was going for $3-5. I haven't been active in that community in years, but it basically involved me botting the piss out of 10+ accounts and transferring any gold made to a "mule" from which I would then sell via forums ( mainly sythe ).

My most recent endeavor involved YT and WoW related videos promoting paid addons. Made a few bucks and got out, too much effort and competition for it to be lucrative for me.

Back in the day, RS was where it was at. All the rich kids asking their parents for gold/items for their birthday or Christmas gifts.

The only thing I can think of now, for RS anyway, would be buy low sell high. You'd have to buy huge amounts, worth literally thousands of dollars, then sell small quantities to make any real money.

I dont have good enough hardware for mining, just a decent gaming computer and a laptop. I like to stick with video games because I'm very familiar with them, enjoy them and have an aptitude for figuring out economies quickly.

Yeah Runescape seems like a decent idea but I am not experienced with botting in any way. So something like that might be tough.

People who earn money aren't afraid to spend money on their hobby.
Also what are your thoughts on alcohol, cigars, driving cars that burn like 100 liters per 100 km??
Each person find different things interesting. While some people might find bikes for example an awesome thing I think they are waste of money. Different people, different perspectives.

Don't want to start an argument or something just wanted to say that calling people idiots because they have money to spend on their hobbies is kinda idiotic.

@OP - There are a lot of money to be made from games, but you have to follow the trends and dive as soon as hit games come out. Good example is Guild Wars 2. When the game came out you could sell powerleveling for up to 400-500$. 1 month later it was down to $40. Same with Diablo as you already know.
Generally most money are made from MMORPGs, but games that have different leagues like league of legends, SC etc... can also be quite profitable of course for those type of services where you have to raise their rank you really need to be good at the game
